Many historians believe that Lincoln was one of our few truly great presidents for a number of reasons, even though not everything he did was perfect. Lincoln deserves his ranking as a great president because he was able to preserve the government of the United States and then restore unity to all of the states under one government. Lincoln's greatest contribution to the country was his ability to save the country from splitting into two separate countries. In his letter to Horace Greeley, Lincoln explains that he doesn't care if slavery is abolished or not, but only cares about keeping the country united. This shows how to determine Lincoln was to save the country and would do anything in his power to accomplish this (Document 1).…

The author states the quote " He was the one who originated the concept of a citizen president". I also think he had a lot of knowledge and tried new things out, and was very succesful with the outcomes and ideas.…

His purpose is to present the prelude period of the American Civil War from the perspectives of the six presidents that were alive during the period. These presidents; John Tyler, Martin Van Buren, James Buchanan, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, and Abraham Lincoln, all had different agendas that they pursued throughout their terms in office, differing views about the role of the office of the presidency in society, and differing views about the separation between the north and the south and how to solve the problems that separated them. These differing points of view come into sharp focus within DeRose’s narration.…
