Abraham Lincoln: Moving Towards a More Perfect Union
The United States of America has had forty-four presidents; our nation has put the wellbeing of our country into the hands of forty-four people. A president’s job is to lead our government, be a spokesperson for the people, and make sure America is living up to the ideals we were founded upon. One particular president, Abraham Lincoln, was a phenomenal spokesperson for the ideals America stands for, particularly equality and freedom, and led our nation to become a “more perfect” union.

Both of these writings note that Lincoln had a very successful and substantial life and term as president. Although he was gone he left behind a legacy that would never be forgotten, and gave the people a starting voice in the progression of freedom. Abraham Lincoln’s presidency established the beginning of putting forth substantial effort in the fight against inequality. His dedication towards pushing to abolish slavery, and giving African Americans their unalienable rights is what made him one of the best leaders our nation has ever had. He cared deeply about the moral and fair constitution our country was founded upon, and fought to stand by it and make our nation a more ideal one. “We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” This quote from Abraham Lincoln himself sums up how he made our nation a more perfect
