Abraham Lincoln Suffered In 1835 his first major depression. He left home four years before, and at 26, was at an age when the serious mental illness frequently occurs. Shenk acknowledges that it is difficult to identify precisely what factors may trigger a depressive life for him Lincoln was contemporaneously described as suffering from melancholy, a condition which modern mental health professionals would characterize as depression. In my opinion I believe that Abraham Lincoln accomplishments were hindered his successes as a president because it caused his life and his work to be very miserable and he probably took a lot of his defeats in his lifetime a lot worse than other people that took those same defeats but without his mental illness. Reading this has changed my viewpoint and understanding of mental illnesses because it showed me how serious it is to live with depression and this disease shows how strong the people dealing with the mental illness are because it is a very stressful thing to live with. It showed how to care for people with depression by saying you should be getting them a lot of therapy and surround them around things they enjoy is very hard to do. It also showed me how much you should care for people with mental illness. problem, Ineffective individual coping related to situational crisis as evidenced by verbalization of inability to cope, reported life stress, and alteration in social participation one of the first priority for the Nursing diagnosis for patients with depression is to reduce Risk for suicide/ Risk for self-directed violence and the second important thing for nursing diagnosis for depression Ineffective coping, hopelessness, social isolation, imbalanced nutrition the goal is to make them feel better and get them as much help necessary and the last one is Counseling for patients with depression and goals of this is to help the patient with Problem solving increase coping abilities change negative thought processes
