Abraham quickly grew interested in reading. He didn’t go to school all the time. It was rare for him to continue to go to school because he was taught by traveling teachers. If he wanted to go to school he will have to walk severely miles to reach the school. Since Lincoln did not have the supplies to learn he improvised. He did not have pencil and paper so he would use the back of a wooden spoon as paper and a charcoal as a pencil. Abraham said that in his whole childhood he went to school for only an inconsistent 12 month. Abraham father did not take care of Abraham as he was supposed to. Abraham father would make him do labor work out in the field. Abraham would remove weeds, and collect corn. All of this labor work made Abraham father earn a lot of money, through all the labor work Abraham have done, Abraham received strength. During those time Abraham did know about slavery but he did not see slaves and slave plantations. He did not see any slavery because he lived somewhere that did not have any slavery. He did not receive any much fame until he became a Whig. He had gotten a license as an attorney in 1836. A year later Abraham had become more advanced in law, speeches are understandable, and arguments. In 1842, Abraham married a women named Mary Todd. Abraham and Mary was two different people but they both fell in love. Abraham was still focused in politics before and after marriage. He became congress in 1847, he only did one term as congress. Abraham remained unnoticed because he had helped in the Mexican American war. Abraham had worked and tried his hardest to when the election for the Whigs, but he lost. He took a break from politics and focused more on law. Abraham went back to politics in 1854, he came when slavery started to become a problem. In 1855 he tried to become Senator but he lost. Abraham started have other political views, he was interested in becoming a Republican, in 1856 he was a part of the Republican Party. Abraham talked a lot about slavery but he was not an abolitionist, and he was all for free-states. In 1856, he was able to become a candidate for vice president but he did not run up. After two years he was nominated by the Republican Party to go against Stephen A. Douglass in the senatorial race for Illinois. He went on many debates with Stephen, there were 7 debates in total.
