April 15th 1865- The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
Importance: Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States and he was the first President to be assassinated. Many believed the reason for his assassination was his willingness to free the slaves and defy what the Confederate States wanted. President Lincoln was assassinated while he watched a play at ford’s theater and died early the next morning. The Vice president Andrew Johnson was too be assassinated in his hotel room but the assassin couldn’t muster up the courage to complete the job (13).
