Once again, Abraham lies in an alien land and uses Sarah to safeguard his life. Similar to the fate of the Pharaoh, the deity threatens King Abimelech’s life because of Abraham’s deceit. However, this time, the deity states that Abraham is a prophet and informs the king that Abraham has the power to pray for him and save his life. King Abimelech gives Abraham sheep, oxen, and male and female slaves just as the Pharaoh had done in Egypt. Thus, from one narrative to the next, as Abraham journeys through alien lands, he gains not only material resources, including livestock and slaves, which improves his social-economic status, but he also receives land and silver (20:16) and increased socio-religious status and power through his covenant with the Lord and the Lord’s conference of the position “prophet” upon him.…

After reflecting on the care God gave to Samuel, Elijah, and Elisha, I believe that God’s care for these individuals started at the very beginning of their lives being known. In some cases like Samuel’s, his mother Hannah desired to have a child and the Lord provided such blessing. 1 Samuel 1:27 says, ”I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him.” (New International Version) In gratefulness of God’s blessing Hannah returned Samuel back to God, in reason of her promise to our Father that she would raise Samuel to be a man of the Lord.…

I believe that Jesus is the Messiah and I believe that some of these are truly prophecies and others I believe are not. Psalms was written as poems and songs, it is about David and His experiences. I do not believe that someone can just pick a single verse out of Psalms and say it is a prophecy to fit their own agenda. David was writing about his hands and feet being pierced because that was a common practice done to criminals at the time. There are more concrete prophesies in the bible about Jesus then the ones that we studied this week.…

Abraham sees opposite and because he is brave enough to question God and his commands, God hears his plea. Abraham tells God “even if there are even a few innocents left in the city, God should not destroy them. ”(Reilly 2) Because Abraham followed his intellect and emotion, and didn 't just blindly follow God, he was able to stop the slaughter of thousands. By using these stories, Reilly constructs an ethical appeal to the readers sense of morals. Yes, some follow blindly, but even here one man made a difference just by a simple…

Known as a great portrayal of biblical faith, Abraham demonstrates unwavering trust and obedience to God throughout the latter part of his life. Faith is defined as, “A loving trust, calculated risk, and an ongoing process with seasons of darkness and doubt.” (Fairchild) Abraham chooses to follow God willingly and without hesitation in spite of the extremity of His instructions. The blessings God bestows upon Abraham are immeasurable compared to His commands. Look first at the early seed of faith planted in Abraham after he came to know God while residing in Haran with his father Terah, his nephew Lot, and his wife Sarah.…

The prophets in the Old Testament were people who profoundly understood the relationship between God and His people through the Covenant. They were touched with the Holy Spirit (Num 11:29, Num 27:18) so that they could provide counseling and guidance to God’s people in the Old Testament, until the pouring out of the Holy Spirit after the cross (Joel 2:28) when each of us is a prophet. In other words, each of us has within us, the ability to understand what is expected of us, and how to “get back on track,” through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
