The obvious is of Dan Torrance. The second is of a cult of vampires who call themselves ‘the true knot’. The last is of twelve-year-old, amicable Abra Stone. These three stories overlap each other several times. The first encounter was a night Dan was passing a bar, and saw “ a good-looking blonde wearing a tartan skirt, sitting alone” (King 67). That sounds eerily similar to Andi Steinbeck, a new recruit of True Knot. Her hobby is to seduce men into a deep sleep, steal their money, and murder them. Right after seeing this mystery girl, Dan also said, “I woke up with that same old black hole” (King 67). Andi’s powers include telling men what to do as they’re in her trance, and she has successfully told a man not to remember her. The next time, Dan was outside on a snowy winter night, talking with his dead ex- girlfriend. Out of nowhere, she told Dan, “Stay away from the woman in the hat. She’s the queen of Castle Hell. If you mess with her, she’ll eat you alive” (King 89). Coincidently, a woman is the leader of True Knot. Her name is Rose, and she is often seen wearing a hat. Some various other times include Dan seeing a recruitment poster for True Knot, Rose sensed Abra watching her as she killed a young boy, and Abra communicating to Dan through his …show more content…
I feared the idea of him returning to one of his most famous books, but it turned out to have lots of things I like about it. Doctor Sleep is two separate stories. One is about Dan Torrance, struggling to come to terms with his past abilities, and coating it with alcohol. The second is the fight to save a young girl from a group of powerful vampires. King does a fantastic job combining these two intersecting perspectives, while also revisiting some elements from The
