Learning About Oneself from Writing Throughout Selections from the Essays Montaigne, by Donald M. Frame, Montaigne could know himself by writing about himself. Montaigne wrote these essays in order to have an understanding of himself. Montaigne seemed like he revealed he knew he was courageous. Montaigne said, “Still I am pleased at this, that my opinions have the honor of often coinciding with theirs, and that at least I go the same way… I know the vast differences between them and me” (7). Montaigne realized he would not be able to achieve the writing level of the great writers. He did not try to cover up this weakness, but instead showed courage by moving forward even though

Who am I? That is a very deep question. I think the only way I can answer that truthfully is by saying, I do not know exactly who I am, but I know who I want to become. I want to become a well rounded individual, someone who everyone likes and looks up too. I want to be someone my family can be proud of.…

Throughout the majority of my life, I was self-conscious and constantly worried about how I was perceived by others. As a child, I had always felt slightly out of place among my peers. I was just a little too quirky to fit into any of the groups at my school and I was too shy to force my way into one. I could not exactly understand what made me so different from my classmates and I desired more than anything to gain the self-confidence to express myself.…

To explain who I am as a writer I think we would need to step back and look at who I was as a reader. From a young age, I was horrible at reading. I would put in special programs that would have me read books to younger grade children to make it seem like I knew how to read. Well, at least I thought I knew how to read. When it came down to it I was three reading levels below my class.…

So i'm going to be meditative in my essay because when i write about my feelings i feel so much better and i don't really have a best friend to really talk to and maybe this isn't like meditative but it helps me concentrate and actually have something interesting to write about. Everything i change will be in blue writing, and so far while rereading my essay I started a lot of sentences with “So” So to start of I joined a sorority and m not trying to be those typical “it was the best decision of my life” because it's really not. Like I could've been better without doing it but i made that decision to be in it…

When I stare at a blank word document my mind becomes scattered. Writing has always been something that has never came easy to me. I always felt like the way I worded things, or explained myself in a paper wasn 't good enough compared to all the other people in my classes. Then, just recently I figured out that if I write for myself and things that I feel strongly about then when I am staring at a blank word document the words will come easy to me, and will start to flow. This is why I wrote, and why I write.…

A Reflection of the Self I found this to be an appreciable assignment in which I was pushed to exceed my normal comfort zone in writing and expressing my views. This assignment helped improve my writing and reading in several ways. I overcame struggles in my writing, reading and found innovative ways to progress through these difficult texts in the development towards writing this essay. The process of going from “Madman”, “Architect”, “Carpenter” and “Editor” was a tremendously useful tool in the creation of my paper. These progressions and workshops allowed myself to have a focused task instead of worrying about everything at once.…

I am currently studying in Economics and Finance at the Sacramento State. In my academic work, I found myself particularly excited about investment and corporate finance-related subjects. As for my learning expectations for this class, I am looking forward to engaging in a writing environment where I can practice my planning and revision based on suggestions from professors and group members. I would like to see myself developing an awareness of how my major conducts their research in the field and how they prepare their writings. Throughout the class, I have been able to expand my understanding on how proper wording can change the effectiveness of writing and learned to organize my thoughts and ideas and fit them into my writing as well as…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…

My experience as a writer has stretched through just about my entire life time. As a four year old kid I had started kindergarten and my writing career had took off fast! When my teacher first started to teach us how to write, we started with learning all of the letters and writing all the small simple words that young kids do when we are first taught to read and write, such as cat, dog, cow and pig. At this stage I had thought that reading and writing was the best thing in the world because they were so new and strange to me! It was just one of those things that I wanted to learn more about everyday as a young child.…

Who am I? A question that would made you think well and might puzzle you out. Describing yourself is harder than describing someone because there are some areas in you that you are not certain of such as characteristics, personalities, and attitude. Also, there are things that other people would notice while we can’t because those things are the things we do that we are not conscious about. Talking about myself, I am Noreen Joyce F. Panganiban, a 16 year-old girl turning 17 this March 2016, from Carmona, Cavite.…

When people ask me to describe myself, I always draw a blank, I never know what to say, I’m caught off guard because I don’t really love talking about myself too often because I am someone who likes to listen rather than to talk. I always have to think about what I should say to make a good impression on whomever is asking me the question. There is a lot about me that you can see by just looking at me; I have short brunette hair, I’m short, hazel eyes, I’m quiet, and more. However, there are certain personality traits about me that every single person I know on a personal basis can tell you; I am candid, I am shy, and I am very loving. I am candid and by candid, I mean I am always very truthful and frank.…
