Why do women get abortions? This question is very hard to answer but their maybe reasons behind this. Many women have their own reasons as to why they choose to get an abortion or if they choose not to. Even though abortion is legalized, their are many questions as to if they should still keep it legalized or make it illegal. Most women faced with this situation, tend to go against abortion. Many women believe that this is not the right thing to do and should go against it. (Frick) Research has stated that their has been a decrease in the amount of abortions, but it still shows a large amount annually. Their are several things that can be done to decrease abortion but it just needs the cooperation from everyone.

(Hendershott) In the U.S. there are 2 reporting agencies. The U.S. Center for Disease Control is a passive recipient of reports voluntarily sent to it by the states. Since all states don’t report, and many report inaccurately, these totals are under-reported. During the 1980s and 1990s total abortions stayed about 1,550,000 annually, slowly decreasing in the 1990s. (Alters) When the unreported abortions are added a figure of 1,800,000 may be more realistic. Live births have hovered just under 4,000,000. (Alters) In 1973 half of all abortions in the U.S. were done in hospitals. (Alters) Twenty years later it was down to 7%. Most are done in 440 large free-standing abortion chambers which did 70% of all abortions. The rest are done in doctors’ offices or in clinics that do less than half of their "business" in abortion. (Hendershott) 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons.
