The validity of the statement varies from person to person. Many individuals consider life to begin upon the moment of conception while others consider a fetus to be viable after months of development. It’s important to consider that an egg and a sperm are not the same thing as a developed fetus. Fetal viability has been an important topic in consideration to the abortion laws. In the Roe v. Wade case it was stated that abortion would be considered unlawful after the 28th week of pregnancy. This varies from state to state in the United States today.
It’s important to state that the procedure of abortion is not new, it has been done throughout time and long before any formal laws. Abortion, would ultimately still be performed, regardless of any rules and regulations or whether or not it would be considered legal or illegal. It’s a topic of debate between women, men, legislators, and religious individuals but most of the time these decisions are not product of the individual. Carrying out a full-term pregnancy is to be decided by the person participating in the pregnancy. The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network estimated that in 2002 there were 17,342 cases of pregnancies as a result of rape. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, its not the individual that raped her who gets to deal with the consequences but the woman who becomes pregnant. Along with the emotional trauma from such event, this individual will have to deal with the responsibility of raising a child for the rest of her life. Abortion in this case could be an option for an unplanned pregnancy. So what happens to a woman who is pregnant with a child as a product of incest? Is it fair to an innocent individual to suffer through such a thing? If she decides to have the child, will the child suffer from abuse as a result of an unwanted
