The Controversial Issue Of Teenage Abortion

There are many issues today such as drug abuse, violence, and teen pregnancies. Abortion is another important and controversial issue that has been an ongoing problem for centuries. Abortion ends a pregnancy before the time of birth with deliberate steps (Durrett 1). The majority of teen abortions correlate with unplanned pregnancies. Research shows “The majority of abortions occur in teens and younger women. The younger the teen is when she gets pregnant, the more likely she is to seek an abortion.” (“Teen Pregnancy Statistics”). According to the article “About Defending Reproductive Justice” it states that“97 percent of women having abortions reported experiencing pain during the procedure, which more than a third described as “intense,” “severe” or “very severe”.” Research shows that teenagers find abortion more painful than older adults (“About Defending Reproductive Justice”). Not only do abortions cause pain for the mother but for the fetus too. During late abortions when the fetus is about twenty weeks, the baby can feel the pain. The article “Unborn Babies Can Feel Pain” justifies that “Surgeons entering the womb to perform corrective procedures on tiny unborn babies have seen those babies flinch, jerk and recoil from sharp objects and incisions”. At twenty weeks, the fetus’s brain with a complement of brain cells and is able to receive pain signals from the body (“Unborn Babies Can Feel Pain”). Besides abortions being painful, it is said that women are more likely to suffer from breast cancer from aborting. Strong evidence states “18 with no previous pregnancies, having an abortion after the 8th week increased the risk of breast cancer by eight hundred percent” (“About Defending Reproductive Justice”). Lastly, death for women is the worst outcome from abortion.
