It is best that physicians have respect for the the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. The principle of Autonomy acknowledges that the fact that Sue Ann has the right to choose between having an abortion and bringing her pregnancy to term. On the other hand, the doctor has to use the principle of beneficence, that is to do no harm. The doctor should always have the best interest of the patient, which can sometimes become difficult for the doctor when dealing with abortion. The doctor should assess the patient and all the available diagnostic and therapeutic options and then implement those that promote the interest of the patient by ensuring a balance of good over harm. In my concluded argument, I agree that human life starts at conception, and that it is morally wrong for a person to have an abortion. From this essay I have gained the knowledge on what it takes to make an ethical decision. It is not always easy and sometimes we lose sight of what’s important to us and our ethical principles in the decision-making process. Following this essay, the knowledge I want to gain includes finding out what are healthcare providers perspectives on abortions while administering them. I will also like to know what more can we do as nurses to help these patients makes the best decision and feel comfortable. I have also yet to learn if there are classes for health care professionals to take so that we can better care for these patients.
