You could not be more excited. You and your partner have been trying for a baby for months and it finally happened. You are now 20 weeks into the pregnancy and find out that it’s a girl. You really wanted a girl. They do prenatal diagnostic testing. You find out the baby has Down Syndrome. No big deal, you can handle that, it could be worse. A few weeks later you go in again for more testing and fluid has built up from the babies head to its lower back, this is called Cystic Hygroma. This is a very rare disease and in this case there is nothing they could do for the baby at the time. Her life would be surgery after surgery and a lot of treatments, but most likely it would be all for nothing. She would live a painful, short life. Why watch your child go through that? You can’t fix her pain. You can’t make her better. There’s nothing you can do. Some people can handle that, some can’t. The people that can’t just try to make the best decision for their child.
