In some locations, abortion was once treated as a crime because it was seen as murder of a human life (Abortion: Background and Issues), and it still should be treated that way today. Abortion is the killing of a human life that does not have the ability to fight for itself. As a society we do not allow the humane killing of people suffering incurable diseases. Again, studies find that this is not the case. Only 17% of the pregnancies that end in abortion occur with teenage women (Guttmacher Institution). It is quite possible that this number would be dramatically decreased if abortions were illegal. If it were not so easy for teens to go have an abortion, it is understandable that they would take more precautions to making sure they do not become pregnant. Also, if teens know that there is a lifelong consequence of having to care for a baby or put it up for adoption, again, they may be able to make better choices regarding the potential pregnancy. From a teen’s perspective, abortion can be seen as a quick and convenient fix to the situation they have created that they probably do not want.
