Should abortions be made illegal?
Why is abortion such a controversial topic in today’s society? Abortion being the termination of a pregnancy before birth creates a prominent question about someone’s morality. The topic of abortion is one of the most disputable issues that has been difficult to sort out. During the nineteenth century, abortion laws began making an appearance. These laws put a stop to abortions after the fourth month of pregnancy. Most places within the United States outlawed abortions before the twentieth century, but they were still performed illegally. A well known judge argued that abortion infringed upon “a woman’s autonomy to determine her life’s course, and thus to enjoy equal citizenship stature” (Ginsburg). Supporters of Pro-choice have a belief that a fetus is not fully human until the point at which they can survive outside of the mother’s womb. Those who support abortions take into account the pregnancies that come in result of rape, or pregnancies that bring harm to a woman’s life. Their beliefs have been morphed into various ideas about the idea of conception.
