Abortion has often been one of the hottest ethical topics in today’s society, and it has been for over last 30 years. Back in 1973 it was decided in the Roe vs. Wade case abortion was legal and that it was the women’s choice to decide what happens to her body. However, to this day there are many people still arguing whether or not abortion should be legal. There are two sides that have been arguing this topic, which are the Pro-Life, and Pro-Choice. Because if abortion were to become illegal women would still find ways to have an abortion. Historically, women around the world have tried to end their unwanted pregnancies, no matter if abortion is legal or not. Most of the time the women would often risk their own safety by seeking a dangerous illegal procedure or doing it themselves. No matter if it is a back alley abortion, to doing it themselves. Women are going to find a way to have the procedure done no matter what you do, so providing them a safe, clean way would help protect the mothers in the end. This would seem like the wisest choice out of all choices. However, many people still tend to forget about the mother when the topic is risen. They are also forgetting that there was an estimated number range from 200,000 to 1.2 million per year of illegal abortions in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. There were as many as 5000 of American women died yearly as a result of having unsafe abortions. Now when most people think of abortions people often recognized coat hanger abortions. Just hearing it we automatically think of what comes along with it like dangerous, illegal abortions. To many women it was used as a last resort, in desperation, it was the only thing there when nothing else would suffice. Moreover, women who were un-financially unstable had worse access to birth control, meaning that pregnancy was difficult to avoid.
