On the 9th of November, 2016, I woke up crying, scared, and completely unsure about America’s and my personal future. I woke up feeling a fear I had never felt before. November 9th was the day America threw its black, Mexican, female, trans*, LGBT+, Asian, and disabled people under the bus. It was the day America voted & chose racism, hatred, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, xenophobia, and intolerance. If you don’t agree with what was voted for, but your support still went to Trump, you consciously and silently disregarded all of this, therefore supporting it. To put into perspective, there is only one person in this room who will never experience the hate and bigotry Trump campaigned for. The eleven women in this room will experience sexism, …show more content…
Abortion. It is no one's concern except the woman seeking an abortion. Not your vagina, not your say. There are many reasons a woman may seek an abortion, but none of those reasons are there for you to scrutinise. As for adoption, it is an option, however it still is up to the woman and herself alone. Gay rights. Do these really affect you? Think long and hard. You probably can't think of any reason except the Bible. The Bible is consistently cherry picked to fit into the person's own life. You cannot do this. The Bible forbids wearing mixed fabric, consuming shellfish, and women speaking in church or in a man's presence among many other things that are ignored to benefit. Gay rights and gay marriage do not infringe upon anything in your life, other than being a personal, homophobic annoyance, so leave us the hell alone or stand with us. Racism. Don't like black people, Mexicans, Asians, or any other race that isn't your own for whatever reason? Congratulations, you're a racist. POC are not here either for you to decide whether or not they fit your own personal attraction, they aren't here for you to critique their culture or lives, and to close this: Black Lives Matter, Muslim Lives Matter, Gay Lives Matter, and Trans Lives

As Julie said in her speech, abortions only cover about three percent the services Planned Parenthood provides. The organization understands and respects each individual’s right to make informed, independent decisions about health, sex, and family planning. Their health centers provide a broad spectrum of safe, reliable health care. Planned Parenthood is proud of its vital role in providing young people with honest sexuality and relationship information in classrooms and online to help reduce our nation’s alarmingly high rates of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate among the world’s developed nations and approximately 750,000 teenagers in the United States will become pregnant this year.…

The Telegraph produced a list containing every instance in which Donald Trump made a sexist remark towards women. In all, there were 31 different instances between 1990 and 2016 where Donald Trump demoralized women. The most prevalent of which is of him objectifying female reporters and celebrities based on their appearances. A jarring example of this is in 2009, when a Miss USA pageant contestant came out about the “Trump rule.” Trump being a co-owner of the pageant would automatically eliminate any girls from the pageant that he didn’t find attractive.…

“When a man steals to satisfy hunger, we can safely assume that there is something wrong in society so when a woman destroys the life of her unborn child, it is evidence that either by education or circumstances she has been greatly wronged.” Said by Mattie Brinkerhoff. Abortion is increasing tremendously. There are 40-50 million abortions that occur per year, that means there are 125,000 unborn babies that die every day. In fact, Frank Pavone states that “If we took a moment of silence for each person lost to abortion we would be silent for over 100 years.”…

For the many American citizens that don’t fit the cis-gendered, straight, white, male body; the pursuit of Happiness can be difficult and the American Dream even harder to fulfill. It is a journey filled with many obstacles, such as discrimination and oppression, to reach that state of ‘Happiness’. For many non-white Americans, hate crimes are a particularly common issue that puts the lives of many people of color at risk. According to the 2015 U.S. census, about 22.9% of Americans are non-white. With an estimated population of 321,418,820 that would mean that there is around 73,604,909 non-white Americans living in this country.…

Gay rights in the United States has most recently been a large and semi-controversial topic of discussion as it gains more and more awareness throughout our society. Gay rights haven’t always been such a prominent topic, and in fact, it wasn’t until 1924 when the first documented gay rights organization, the Society for Human Rights, was founded. This society worked hard to begin to introduce this idea of gay rights to America, although it was disbanded due to political pressure shortly after it was founded. Later on in 1950, the first sustained gay rights group was formed, the Mattachine Society. And just 3 short years after this society formed, on April 27, 1953, president Dwight D. Eisenhower signed an executive order banning homosexuals…

The topic of abortion has always been an extremely controversial topic that I find to be simply worked out; allow everyone to have their own opinions and make their own choices on the matter. Men who fight the pro-choice movement don’t make sense-only women have the right to choose what goes on within their own bodies. In this last year, in combination with the recent elections and growing prejudice throughout the world, the pro-life movement has gained much momentum, and this is just one of the hate-fueled debates that I really wish to see an end to. Although I have not completed any of my freshman year’s service with any reproductive health organizations, I do plan to in the future, and it is a topic which I am extremely intrigued with.…

Abortion is a controversial topic which has been discussed with great passion among our society. To some women having a child can mean everything, specifically single mothers who find purpose and pride in being called a mother (Edin 207). Some women do not want children because they do not want to be mothers. There are many factors that come when one becomes a mother or when one is pregnant; the responsibility, finance, time and commitment for a child can be too much for someone and can lead them to not want the child. The social and acceptable norm is becoming pregnant by consensual sexual intercourse between a man and a woman after wedlock.…

Hello, I have neither name nor life yet, but what I do have is a beating heart, I’m about five weeks old and my mother is about to make the biggest mistake of her life and abort me. Mothers in the United States make these same decisions every day and I don’t want my own mother, sisters, or unborn daughter to make a decision like that. Abortion is the killing of a fetus before his or her birth. Everyday men and women go to prison for killing one another, which is illegal, then why is it that abortion still occurs in our everyday life, abortion is murder no matter what way, shape, form or fashion you look at it. By having an abortion you are preventing a life that maybe one day can accomplish great things.…

Gay rights would make the world a better place. while accepting other people’s differences. Nobody can put themselves in their shoes, because they can’t choose whether they choose to be straight or gay, but discriminating them and stripping them from their civil rights, is just wrong and cruel of us as the United States, whom is also known as the county for freedom and our rights. We are hypocritical for saying how we have so many rights and we are such a free country, but when society dictates who can marry who, and people are being discriminated against and beaten on, that isn’t a practice of rights. Now, expressing you feel that homosexuality is a sin, is a religious right.…

However, what if because of your age, you were stripped of those rights, stripped of the right to live? What if someone that barely knows you could tear you to shreds. If someone elses mistakes decided the fate of your life, and how would you react if these blinded crimes were all allowed by your government? Personhood, the legal state of being a person, is granted to people the day they are born until the day they die.…

Why? Being gay is natural. Sure, moral fundamentalists may think it is a sin, but who are they to deny rights to those who are doing something that is just as right as a man loving a woman? Gays couples can be models of family life, offering just as much love and support for children as hetersexual couples. Gender should not be covered by marriage law, as the constitution protects US citizens from gender discrimination.…
