"I didn't want to be a mother," the post starts. "I was 18. We weren't in love. "It's not legal here. So I researched it on the Internet. I did it myself. In my room. If things had gone wrong, I could have died. Seeing it come out of me was the worst moment of my life. And I couldn't tell anyone. Not even my parents. So I carried the secret with me. I felt like this thing was always in my chest, but it was stuck there. All day I'd act normal. Then at night I'd go to my room and cry.” This caption, depicting an at home abortion done in South America, shared and liked by many on the Humans of New York Instagram page has sparked discussion of the importance of women’s access to abortion. Since the election, women’s marches have taken place around the world to show their distaste not only for the new president, but also towards many of the possible new policies that could affect women. These may include cutting access to birth control, removal of the Affordable Care Act, and the repeal of Roe v. Wade. With all of these previously stated possibilities women may be facing a multitude of problems in the near future, including: higher risks from at home procedures, an increase of women’s expenses and religious institutions instituting their religious opinions onto another. However, many of these regulations do not ask the people who they will affect most: women. While there are many ways to address these impending problems, the best solution to these issues are to give women an active role in creating the regulation, teach the importance of overall excellent health and sexual education at a young age, and most importantly keep many of the current practices in …show more content…
A main principle of America is the ability to practice one’s religion and decide a personal path. When a hospital, serving an entire, diverse community denies a patient to the best access and services that they can provide, they create a hindrance to the health of our society. Regardless of whatever religion one may practice everyone deserves the right to a good successful life. To conclude, a refusal may make a patient feel ostracized from the health care system and worrisome about how others will judge them for the situation they are in. These feelings may cause a patient to avoid contact with the health care system entirely, including use of preventive care, until his or her condition becomes more serious, reducing the chances of the patient recovering and contributing to greater health care costs. Ignoring the problem will not solve it though, when left unresolved, a higher risk of the situation getting worse is probable. After this stage patient usually must then enter one of the overburdened emergency rooms of America. Due to all of these

Owning Your Own Body: The women’s movement for reproductive agency In Jennifer Nelson’s More Than Medicine, sociologist and historian Zakiya Luna explains that reproductive rights and reproductive justice are not synonymous (Nelson, 194). Additionally, reproductive rights are not exclusively bound to abortion, although 1970s and 80s white-based women’s movements made this their main platform. Reproductive rights emphasize a woman’s entitlement to choose what to do with her body, which includes pregnancy, abortion, and contraceptive use. Reproductive justice examines accessibility to these reproductive rights among different demographics of women.…

Since life starts at origination, fetus removal is similar to kill as it is the demonstration of taking human life. Premature birth is in direct insubordination of the generally acknowledged thought of the holiness of human life. No enlightened society licenses one human to deliberately damage or take the life of another human without discipline, and fetus removal is the same. Appropriation is a feasible different option for fetus removal and fulfills the same result. What's more, with 1.5 million American families needing to receive a tyke, there is no such thing as an undesirable tyke.…

As Julie said in her speech, abortions only cover about three percent the services Planned Parenthood provides. The organization understands and respects each individual’s right to make informed, independent decisions about health, sex, and family planning. Their health centers provide a broad spectrum of safe, reliable health care. Planned Parenthood is proud of its vital role in providing young people with honest sexuality and relationship information in classrooms and online to help reduce our nation’s alarmingly high rates of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate among the world’s developed nations and approximately 750,000 teenagers in the United States will become pregnant this year.…

In many areas of the world, about 25% of the population, there are very strict policies on abortion prohibiting unreasoning abortions or unsafe abortions in generally (Kaplan, 2016). However, Henshaw and Martire’s reports show that over 4 million women in the United States have had an unsafe abortion (1982). It is a miracle that these women are even still living considering that WHO estimated in 2012 that 47,000 women throughout the world die each year from unsafe…

The next problem in women’s healthcare is that many people, corporations, and groups tie religious beliefs into their practices which do not allow women to get the best options available in some cases, only the best objectionable services that someone else deems appropriate for them, An example of this could be a rape survivor seeking emergency contraception (EC) from a hospital to be denied based on the objections of a religiously-affiliated hospital. They can refuse to dispense, prescribe, or even recommend her the product. (Health Care Refusals Harm Patients) Due to the time sensitivity of emergency contraceptive the refusal of it or refusal to even give it as an option substantially increases a woman's risk of pregnancy and will eventually…

Over the past decades, women in America have been fighting for equal rights. According to John Markoff, “Rivals for elective office assiduously courted New Jersey’s women voters until the legislature wrote a new, explicitly males-only rule into its 1807 constitution.” (88) It was not until 1973 that women gained the right to abort a fetus that they were bearing within their own body. Although women have gained many rights, they still today are fighting to keep their right to abort a fetus. Many individuals notice that there are underlying issues with suppressing abortion, but others oppose the idea of an abortion.…

“When a man steals to satisfy hunger, we can safely assume that there is something wrong in society so when a woman destroys the life of her unborn child, it is evidence that either by education or circumstances she has been greatly wronged.” Said by Mattie Brinkerhoff. Abortion is increasing tremendously. There are 40-50 million abortions that occur per year, that means there are 125,000 unborn babies that die every day. In fact, Frank Pavone states that “If we took a moment of silence for each person lost to abortion we would be silent for over 100 years.”…
