Essay On Political Ideologies

Growing up, I was raised in a conservative, Christian, upper-middle class home. At a young age, I listened and asked questions concerning what my parents and family members were discussing when the news came on. As I got older and started thinking more for myself, I realized I was blindly agreeing with my parents ideas on politics. It wasn’t until around sophomore year in high school that I really became fascinated with politics and the differences between liberals and conservatives. From there I constantly followed multiple news sources dealing with politics. I came to the conclusion quickly that my ideals in politics were similar to my parents, conservative. Today I still declare myself a conservative, but not as extreme as most are. When getting ready for this paper I came across the article “Conservative vs. Liberal Beliefs” from the Student News Daily, which helped me establish where I stand on certain political topics in today’s society. In this paper I will discuss my political ideologies on current day topics such as abortion, the death penalty, gun control, immigration, discrimination, and separation of the church and state that are disputed between liberals and conservatives. Ronald Reagan once said, “There are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect” (Reagan, 1985). This is a statement that I have always lived by and have carried close to my heart. We are a great nation that has excelled since its very birth. Today we continue to grow as a country, for this to happen we need to escape the constraints, tear down the wall, and destroy the barriers that hold back the full potential of this great nation. We can start by accepting all people into our society, giving more freedoms to the citizens, and realizing Americans have different views, but one goal in common
