What is abortion? Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, which is mostly performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. The Soviet Union in 1920s was the first to allow abortions at the woman 's request. In 1973 Roe vs. Wade ruled unconstitutional a state law that banned abortions except to save the life of the mother. Most states severely restricted or banned the practice of abortion. By the late 1980s, abortions were permitted in certain countries only to save a woman 's life, but now abortion is used for many different things. Abortions are a divisive social issue that should be expressed by other human beings instead of the government taking charge. If the government decided what a woman should do with their own body, then that 's considered as taking away human rights. It is not up to someone else to decide what a woman should and shouldn 't do with their body.
