Argumentative Essay: The Abortion Pill

Another method of abortion is the pill. The pill can only be taken when it has been 10 weeks or less from the woman’s last menstrual cycle. If it has been more than 10 weeks, the woman must have an in-clinic abortion. (Planned Parenthood). Before taking the pill, it is required to follow the same steps as the in-clinic abortion which include: discussing your decision with somebody, reviewing your medical history, having a physical exam as well as laboratory tests, and reading and signing any necessary papers. The pill contains three steps, and all must be completed for a successful termination. The first step is to take a medication known as mifepristone, which blocks progesterone. “Without progesterone, the lining of the uterus breaks down, …show more content…
This has been a topic of discussion for years, but it is currently still legal in the United States. While late-term abortions are rare, they are still legal. This means that if a woman wanted to abort her child at 34 weeks pregnant, it would be legal. However, the chances of finding a doctor who would perform such a late-term abortion is very rare. There are many people who are pro-choice that claim abortion is a woman’s right to her own body. That’s a fair argument, but who protects the unborn child? While there are many reasons why a woman would want to get an abortion, too many people rely on it as an option and think “well, if I get pregnant, I can just have an abortion.” or “if she gets pregnant she can just have an abortion.” Abortion should always be the last …show more content…
Women must become knowledgeable on ways to either prevent pregnancy, or alternative methods such as adoption. The numbers of abortions per year need to make their way down, and abortions need to become an absolute last resort, not just an easy way out. Abortions have been around for a long time, and it does not seem like they will be going anywhere any time soon, therefore everybody should be educated on abortions and the risks related to them. The three methods of abortion, aspiration, the abortion pill, and dilation and evacuation, come with many side effects and risks. It is important that the woman knows what she really wants, so there is no regret or guilt afterwards and she must also know the risks associated with an abortion before having one. Abortion will always be a topic of discussion, and there will always be conflict between pro-life and pro-choice groups. It is still legal today, and will still be legal in the near future. Women have a big responsibility with making such a big decision, and it is important that they are confident in their

Abortion is a leading controversial topic raging throughout the United States. A ban or suppression of the availability of abortion procedures is fundamentally wrong and should not be imposed upon a society. In medical terms, an abortion is the deliberate termination of a pregnancy, and currently cannot be performed after 24 weeks into the pregnancy anywhere in the United States. This condition is in place because this is the earliest recorded time in which a fetus was viable, referring to the point at which the baby could survive outside the womb (with medical assistance at first).…

Although I find this assumption incorrect, I also consider that every person has the right to their own opinions. Just like any other medical procedure, abortions are readily available to those who seek them out. Many states are working to prevent this type of service from becoming available to its residents, as discussed in the article “The Public Health Threat of Anti-abortion Legislation”. Once again, we circle around to the matter that every person has a right to…

Mark Ruffalo once said, “There was no mistake in us making abortion legal and available on demand. That was what we call progress. Just like it was no mistake that we abolished institutional racism in this country around the same time.” We have came a long way since the 1973 Roe vs. Wade court case which ruled abortions legal, but there is still a lot of nationwide discourse on the subject. America as a country made the vote to legalize abortion more than four decades ago for many reasons such as overpopulation, the mother's well being, and for the fact that the decision should be left to woman carrying the child.…

There are different ways this can be done, depending on how far along a woman is in her pregnancy. In her article, “Surgical Abortion” Ana Gotter states, “Women up to 15 weeks pregnant can have an aspiration abortion, while D&E abortions are typically performed at 15 weeks or after.” The decision for medical abortion is no longer an option after 15 weeks. The benefit of having a surgical abortion is the higher chance of a full termination. “Both medical and surgical terminations are safe and effective when done in appropriate patients.”…

On average, there are 293,066 sexual assaults on women ages 12 and up every year in the United States of America. If you do the math, factor in the leap years, that comes down to about one sexual assault of a woman anywhere from the age 12 and up every 107 seconds. What if some of these sexual assaults ended in pregnancies? About 5.0% of them do, although it may not seem like much, it 's important. By no means should abortion be promoted as a product in the supermarket, however that does not mean the option should be taken away from women who suffer from sexual assaults which are unfortunately often committed domestically or by someone they know.…

Abortion should be a part of a country’s contraception policy. People should plan their families and society must allow women to end unwanted pregnancies in order to deal with failures of birth control, cases of rape and cases of incest. Abortion should be legalized but discouraged. Legal, because it is a choice; discouraged because there are other more effective ways to prevent pregnancy than abortion. Abortion is all about allowing a woman to make her own decisions, in relation to her age, financial stability, relationship stability, and mental and physical capabilities.…
