An abortion is the ending of a pregnancy, so that it does not result in the birth of a child. It has always been a controversial topic since the ancient times and the abortion laws differ in each country. There are over 1.1 million abortions in the United States each year and the number continues to grow. The United States abortion rate is among the highest in the world within developed countries (abortion). Imagine if you were an adolescent teen girl, who had unprotected sex because of peer pressure, alcohol, drugs, lack of education, or even rape. From one mistake, you have to face a life altering decision that you may not be ready for. Abortion allows the woman to make that decision for herself and not be forced upon the ramifications of such an event. All women should be able to have the choice as to whether they decide to keep the child or not and should not feel pressured if they are not ready due to physical, mental, and financial problems. Although I believe that abortion should be legal, there are those who argue that it should be illegal because it is unjust to human life and society. These people believe that the human life begins when the sperm fertilizes an egg and any killing of this, is considered murder (Flinn). The Roman Catholic Church is one of the leading oppositions of abortion because it defies their religion.
