Abortion Is Morally Wrong? Essay

Judith Jarvis Thomson argued that while there were objections to abortion, they weren’t well supported. While some people think that abortion is morally wrong, I agree with Thomson because of many reasons. One main reason is that while the fetus has the right to life, a mother does at well. Having an abortion could also be beneficial to the mother’s health if needed. Even if the mother’s health is not at stake and she knew of the risks and still engaged in consensual sex, it’s an unexpected pregnancy that is not the responsibility of the mother. Some critics of abortion argue that regardless of it will kill the mother, she should still proceed with giving birth to the child because abortion is considered murder. Some critics also argue that it is considered murder because they believe that conception is when life starts. Another counter argument given to the abortion argument is that if circumstances were different (such as the amount of time a mother were pregnant), then more mothers that were opposed initially would be more open to giving birth. In this paper I will argue that abortion is not wrong. I agree that abortion is not morally wrong because in some ways it could be beneficial to the mother’s health. While this is not always the case, it might be beneficial in 1 of 2 ways. Another way that terminating a pregnancy could beneficial to the mother is in a physical manner.
