Abortion In The Film 180, By Ray Comfort

In the society of today, many are blind to the murder that happens every day. In America, it is legal to have an abortion and many are oblivious to the process and what abortion really means. Abortion is the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end pregnancy (Dictionary.com, 2016). A total of one million abortions were performed in the United States in 2011 (Guttmacher.org, 2016). An evangelist, by the name of Ray Comfort, set out on a mission to prove that abortion is America’s own holocaust. In Comfort’s film, “180”, he uses multiple cases of rhetorical context, witnesses to his respondents, and was successful in proving his arguments. Logos is reason or the rational principle expressed in words and things, argument, or justification (dictionary.com, 2016). Ray Comfort wanted his audience to think about the topic in a sense that many don’t consider. Comfort began to ask questions regarding abortion, all the respondents agreed that it should be a woman’s choice or that it depended on the situation. They were then asked what situation makes abortion acceptable. One person in particular, who identified themselves as pro-choice, answered with “if the baby will not have a good quality of life or if they have a birth defect, then it would be acceptable”. Others will argue that if the parents are not capable of raising the child that abortion is an option. A few of the respondents agree that fetuses are not babies until they are three months pregnant or until they are born (Comfort, Spence, Roman, & Zwayne, n.d.). Sadly, people believe that babies, before they are three months in the womb, are “sub-human” and “parasites”, much like what Hitler thought of the Jews (abortionfacts.com,
