Abortion is a controversial and complicated subject. Everyone has his or her opinion on the topic, but who knows what the correct opinion is. It is absolutely horrific to murder an innocent child who has not had a chance to live. There are nearly 1.1 million abortions in the United States each year; the U.S. abortion rate is the highest of all developed countries (Students for Life, 2015, Pg. 1). There are multiple excuses to have an abortion, but only a few genuine reasons to have one: if the baby or the mother is in danger of losing her life due to the pregnancy or in cases of incest/rape. Abortion should not be used as an escape from responsibility, but sadly that is one of the main reasons women give when having an abortion. Life is a beautiful creation, but is it beautiful enough to save?
About fifty-one percent of abortions are performed on women less than 25 years old. Most women who become pregnant at such an early age feel overwhelmed and find it easier to get rid of the problem instead of facing the problem. According to a new study by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, in a 2004 survey of 1,209 American women, “ninety-two % of women said social or ‘other’ factors were the reason behind their abortion. Only seven percent said physical problems or possible health problems with the baby were the reason, and only 0.5% said they were seeking an abortion because they had been raped” (Schultz, 2015, Para 2).
