Kelley: The Case Of Kelley, Tom, And Abortion

I was very intrigued at the beginning of this podcast when the radio announcers introduced Kelley and Tom. I was fascinated to hear both of their insights on the situation and not be biased if they were in the same room speaking about the topic together. It gave a different look on how serious the situation was and how both of them coped differently. The first question listed on the out-of-class assignment was asking how the couple tried to get pregnant; well, they spoke of several ways they tried over the years. Kelley took drugs that made several eggs at once drop; I was unable to receive the name of the drug. She also tried the test tube method, also called IVF, three times when she and Tom decided it would be best to try an egg donor! …show more content…
The doctors kept doing procedures to stop Kelley from giving birth. After several surgeries the doctors couldn’t stop Kelley from going into labor, so, they delivered the baby at twenty-three weeks and six days. The doctor kept pushing for twenty-four weeks because the fetus is viable. This concept was developed when the Roe vs. Wade law was created. The Supreme Court was trying to strike the balance to protect the women’s choice, but there are limits when the women can no longer choose to have an abortion, which is after twenty-four weeks. Roe vs. Wade stated if a child can be taken out of the womb at twenty-four weeks because they have developed well-enough and survive on their own with their mother, the woman can no longer get an abortion and have to deliver until …show more content…
There was dilemma when deciding if the doctors should operate on Juniper, since she was one pound at the time. The surgeon didn’t want to operate, because of how bad the outcome may be. Before the operation, Juniper had a low blood sugar, but still managed to open her eyes. This made one of the doctors and parents believe this is Juniper declaring she would live and make it through this. Juniper was saying “I am still here, don’t give up on me!” Since the law favors life, the surgical team went through with the procedure and operated on Juniper. By conducting this surgery, they could change the whole outcome of the situation. The doctors and the parents could understand they tried everything to keep Juniper alive if she passes away. If Juniper makes it through the procedure, it showed she was strong enough and the family and surgical team were smart by following through with the procedure. I believe by going through with the procedure and the doctor’s decision for Kelley and Juniper’s health was smart idea on their behalf. I would have been skeptical too about putting the baby into more harm because of how small she was or the idea of her fragile skin not being able to sew up properly. There are situations where a doctor needs to draw the line, but since the baby may pass away, why not try the surgery and see if will help her live. The parents knew the outcome, if they wanted

If the mother dies and the the child dies, then there are two lives that no longer exist. Is two deaths better than one? A third reason that people might have an abortion is because they are scared that the baby will have disabilities. If the baby does have disabilities, the mother should still love the baby no matter what they look like or act like. They are the person’s own flesh and blood.…

Connor Lassiter's destructive behavior pushed his parents over the brink to sign their son’s unwind order. Connor Lassiter was scheduled to be retrospectively aborted (Shusterman 7). Comparatively, in After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?, Minerva argues that caring for a disabled child will overwhelm some parents because they require more time, energy, and attention. Not all parents can take on that type of strenuous challenge- financially as well. With after-birth abortion, they will also have the option to save their child from a future of pain and suffering.…

Let’s say the mother isn’t trying to get pregnant, but she ends up accidentally messing up her birth control. She doesn’t mean to get pregnant, she won’t be able to survive the pregnancy, and therefore, the fetus has very little chance of survival. This makes it absolutely okay for the mother to get an abortion. Some people may argue that the fetus still has a chance at being born, so getting an abortion doesn’t seem like the only option. They think that if there is a chance of survival for the fetus, there should be measures taken to ensure a life for the fetus.…

Wade, the decision of aborting the baby has always been left up to the mother, “Within a survey in 1987 by AGI, most women have three to four reasons for seeking abortion. The following reasons were given most often: a baby would disrupt work, schooling, or other responsibilities,or they just simply could not afford a baby right now” (Caruana 35). First off, if a woman was not ready to give up some of her ways and raise a baby, there should have never been an event to occur that could cause pregnancy. Those who know what can happen during intercourse should understand, be responsible for their actions, and grow up to be able to raise the innocent baby. No baby should ever have to suffer from the decisions his/her mother and father made.…

In my stance though I believe that a mother should have an abortion before the 12 week mark if she wasn’t aware that she was pregnant. Through my eyes I believe that if it is to save a mother’s life, and if it a traumatic reminder of rape that a woman should be entitled to her rights. As a woman I wouldn’t want to be taken away the right to decide of my own life. Though I believe that a baby is a baby no matter what, I believe that their is always a twist to a belief. If a girl goes to a party and get pregnant, in a way I don’t believe that she should have an abortion, but then again as a society we are taking her right away to have an abortion.…

Even though it is not known the babies condition I believe it is worth saving its life for the sake the baby may be perfectly healthy. It would be worse to end its life and never give it a chance at life. The hospital is enhancing good by keeping Mrs. Munoz alive to save their other patient “the fetus.” The good outweighs the bad because Mrs. Munoz knows and experiences nothing right now so keeping her alive to save a life would be better then ending her life and allowing the other patient “the fetus” to die. I believe in the end when the baby is born the family will feel relieved if the baby is healthy with the joy of knowing Mrs. Munoz lives on again through her new offspring. I believe they may have had added guilt if she was taken off life support and the baby died because they may have developed guilt that the baby could have been saved.…

Wade’s favor, that woman as a constitutional right can terminate a pregnancy during its first or second trimester. Only during the last trimester when the fetus can live outside of the womb, would states be permitted to regulate abortion of a healthy pregnancy. Before abortion was legalized, no state in the whole US allowed it. when the US Supreme Court had its ruling, it was a 7-2 decision, which legalized it all over the US. If you are under the age of 16, you may have an abortion without telling your parents, as long as two doctors believe it's in the best interest and you fully understand what is involved.…
