Abortion Abortion is described as the termination of a pregnancy. There is much controversy and debate when it comes to abortion. There are two sides to abortion and they are pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life is against abortion claiming that it is murder of a helpless baby who has not had a chance to live. Pro-choice is for abortion believing that it is a woman’s right to choose what happens to her body and not the government’s. Many questions are raised so that everyone must look at both sides of the issue to better understand abortion. A pro-choice follower believes that the woman’s right to choose should come before any law or restriction. “The ability of a woman to have control over body is critical to civil rights”(“10 Common Arguments”). Pro -choice believes that control over a woman’s body is the most important factor in the debate over abortion. It is the mother’s decision when it comes to the life of her unborn child. “Giving life to an unwanted child might invite a world of troubles for both mother and the child”(“Pros and Cons”). The mother and child could be greatly affected if the child is not wanted. The mother may not be financially stable to support the child. Abortion should only be justified in cases of rape and incest. It would be unfair to a woman to have a baby that was not her fault. Putting more restrictions on abortion could be worse. Women would find ways to have an abortion which could be unsafe because of it being hard to find a safe, practical way of getting a abortion. Another argument for the pro-life is how they can use the Constitution which permits legalization. It’s not in the Bill of Rights or the Constitution, but the right to privacy is an enumerated right. It would not be fair to the mother to have a child that she did not plan on having. Abortion caused due to rape and other health complications should be accounted for but the primary result of abortion is due to personal and social issues. One way to slow the number of abortions around the world today is to better educate the women. If a woman is educated they will likely plan to get a job and have a better future for themselves. Better family planning is another way of ceasing the debate over abortion between pro-life and pro-choice. With all the advanced technology and medicine, the mother can be treated in cases of rape and incest so that she does not get pregnant which again would slowly put out the arguments between the two groups.
