Right at the beginning of the advertisement you see a girl sitting at a park, touching her hair, and is alone. She says she wishes she had straight hair. Being alone symbolizes isolation. She will feel isolated from everyone else until she fits the beauty standards. She will not have friends until she makes herself beautiful. She isn’t facing the camera with the front of her body. This indicates that she is closed off of not comfortable talking about the subject. When your Her facial expressions resemble someone who is going through a hard time. She says that she wants lighter skin, this is more in depth with race. This means she doesn’t like the color of her skin and would love to change it to be more like the other girls her color. She then stumbles over what she wants to say and doesn't feel comfortable saying it and ultimately doesn’t. It today’s society, white privilege has become a huge topic. If you’re closer to looking white, you earn more respect and are giving things you barely worked for. People who are different from modern day white person, believe that white people are supreme beauty. This is how society sees white people. When they are different from that standard they believe that they are not as beautiful. Then the opposite of that, is a girl that would love to be a darker skin tone. She says she is too pale and would stick out. Girls don’t like to stick out. They would like to blend into society and not feel like they stick out among the other girls.
