Abigail Williams is like the vehicle that drives the story. She is the main antagonist, earning herself the title of the ‘villain’ of The Crucible. At the beginning of the story, Abigail is portrayed as any young girl in the Puritan community. She seems fairly innocent and soft-spoken, however she is the polar opposite. After the ritual with Tituba in the woods, it became very clear that Abigail Williams was a deranged teenage girl stricken with a mad sense of undying admiration for John Proctor. It was obvious that she would go to great lengths to gain his affections, even by drinking a ‘charm’ to kill his wife, Elizabeth Proctor.
