Salem Village in 1692 was indeed a paradox. First and foremost, the community has an intense love of God and the Bible and strived to live Christian lives. Yet when the opportunity came to place blame and gain personal fortune, neighbor was often pitted against neighbor, Arthur Miller, in his play The Crucible, created characters who fell into both categories. On one hand there was Elizabeth Proctor, a cold and loving young woman. On the darker side would be Abigail Williams, a girl known for cruel and manipulative actions.
