Everyone knows of Abraham Lincoln and the actions and choices that made him famous, but not everyone knows how much those actions and choices impacted the United States. It impacted us so much that if he hadn’t become who he became, the U.S. that we know today probably wouldn’t be here. That is why I believe that Abe was the political figure that had the biggest impact on American history. His actions led to the freedom that all people in the U.S. have currently. Even before he became the 16th president of the United States, or at that time, The Union, he showed signs of being a great leader and a hard worker. Those characteristics led to his many admirers and the respect that was needed to help him win the war against slavery. Although he was a great man, he was also a great leader. He created many legislatures, like the Emancipation Proclamation, that impacted how our civilization is like today. Of course the Emancipation Proclamation is the biggest and most well-known of his legislature, but he also signed the Morill Act and the National Banking Act (Norton 2). Both of these helped make America more independent. The Emancipation Proclamation was a legislature that emancipated the slaves and allowed for freedoms that the slaves had never thought they would ever get. Although they were considered free, the legislature did not free the slaves in the states that Lincoln had control over (Norton 2).
