How Did Abraham Lincoln's Impact On American History

Everyone knows of Abraham Lincoln and the actions and choices that made him famous, but not everyone knows how much those actions and choices impacted the United States. It impacted us so much that if he hadn’t become who he became, the U.S. that we know today probably wouldn’t be here. That is why I believe that Abe was the political figure that had the biggest impact on American history. His actions led to the freedom that all people in the U.S. have currently. Even before he became the 16th president of the United States, or at that time, The Union, he showed signs of being a great leader and a hard worker. Those characteristics led to his many admirers and the respect that was needed to help him win the war against slavery. Although he was a great man, he was also a great leader. His determination in The Union is also why he is the biggest positive impact on American history. The Union was a group of states that supported staying one country and abolishing slavery. Abraham supported this and without his support and his fight for it, America could be two or more separate countries (Norton 3). Meaning that we could have a free country where everyone is free and have rights that all people should have and a country where whites rule over all other colored or minorities. Everyone nowadays would believe that the country with no freedoms for colored or minorities would be horrible and unconstitutional, but without Abraham’s fight for The Union, that could be how we would be living today. All of this is speculation though. Abraham is just one person and maybe we could be two separate countries, but we could also be the same. No one can tell how something in the past can change the future, but there is a significance that Abraham had on America that led to the United States of America we have
