A lawsuit has been filed against 2 biological supply companies, claiming that they sold fetal tissues acquired between the time-frame of 2009-2015 from planned parenthood at extremely expensive prices around the world which is against the law. The biological companies claim that the allegations of overpricing dead fetal tissues extracted from aborted babies held against them are just “accounting issues”. The 2 companies has charged as much as $700 a vial for fetal tissue that only costed them just $20 to process, according to prosecutors. A law professor at UC Irvine, Michele Goodwin stated that almost all companies that process human tissue charge huge mark-ups, including some “that make this look like this is nothing,” she said. “Why not go after the big fish here?” said Goodwin who is a member of the Planned Parenthood Board.…
Helen Sedgwick, author of the article “Artificial Wombs could soon be a reality. What will this mean for women?” states that the use of artificial wombs will provide great medical benefits, and believes that this technological development could change the way people view reproduction (par.1). The author brings up the fact that by using artificial wombs, it would not only be saving prematurely born fetuses, but also helping older and infertile couples reproduce, while giving transgender and gay people “new fertility options” (par. 5). By using these wombs, Sedgwick believes that the wombs could be a replacement to pregnancy, making it safer than the traditional way of giving birth.…
According to Schouten et al (2008), sepsis involves the activation of the coagulation cascade coupled with down-regulation of anticoagulation and fibrinolysis. An intricate link between inflammation and coagulation exists within the body (Neligan, 2006). When a pathogen is present in the bloodstream or when tissue injury occurs, an inflammatory response occurs. The response causes a stimulation of the immune system to produce interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) (Neligan, 2006). These cytokines are the main catalysts of the inflammatory response and cause the release of several agents including, interleukin-8, histamine, kinins, serotonin, selectins, and neutrophils.…
In the article “Living Incubators, Fetal Container or Womb with legs”? by Melanie DeMaeyer states that women should be able to have control of their own bodies, and have their own image of pregnancy, and not what society should have you look like. The main idea DeMaeyer focuses on is that every woman should have the right what to choose, and what to do with their bodies. In this article DeMaeyer big argument is that women should not be thought of as objects, or “others”, and should be equal and a part of today’s society.…
II. Fetal Heartbeat Standard One of the major changes the ACA attempts to make is the establishment of a new fetal heartbeat standard. Applying this standard would significantly reduce the amount of time needed in a pregnancy for the government to consider the fetus a compelling state interest. The plaintiff, Planned Parenthood of Texarkana, will immediately refer to the precedent set by Roe v. Wade as their strongest argument. In Roe, the Court deemed abortion a constitutional right implied in the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment.…

In this short story, a pregnant Mary Maloney is caught up with an unintentional murder of her husband. Through this, Mary Maloney develops this crazy state of mind where at first she seems to understand and accept the fact that she’ll have to go to jail. Shortly afterwards, she realizes that if she is to spend the rest of her life in jail, her baby would be born in a jail cell and like any mother would, she attempts to protect her baby and herself. Mary Maloney has the most difficult problem since she killed her husband and her baby’s…
Regardless of the option taken, women often experienced intense grief reactions. Both giving birth to a child with life-limiting condition and termination of pregnancy for fetal anomaly can be traumatic life events both associated with psychological morbidity. Parents feel emotional pain and suffering, loss of opportunities, loss of freedom, isolation, loneliness, fear, guilt, stigmatization, financial expenses. Parents are also harmed by their unfulfilled expectation with the birth of an impaired child. Parents of a child with unwanted…
A hopeless girl who has no knowledge of the world and lived in innocence stumbles across a somber road of destruction in which she suffers harsh social stigma on her personal business of casting out a burden which would ultimately may have lead to a poor life quality on the infant’s part; she had just gotten an abortion. A very touchy subject in which society has created a large stigma (characterized as disgraceful) towards females because they had chosen to have an abortion. Abortion is a personal and individual decision a mother may have to choose, for a variety of reasons. The main controversy is, whether or not females undergo psychological changes when she has an abortion. Does a woman who chooses to have an abortion in result of a rape…
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. In “A Defense of Abortion” Judith Thomson argues, a fetus does not have the right to life or the ability to use someone else’s body. She explains the different between Good Samaritan and Minimally Decent Samaritan My objection is that Thomson’s experiment is not realistic, a person has to follow the responsibilities of their actions, and a parent has an obligation to care for their child, and counts as a Minimally Decent Samaritan. Thomson arguments against my objections would be the fetus’ rights are not greater than the mother, there’s a different between consenting to sex and consenting to pregnancy, a child has to be born to have rights.…
Umbilical Hernias occur when the umbilical cord passes through the small opening in the babies abdominal muscles. The muscles usually close after birth. If the muscles don't join together and close, the abdominal wall becomes weaker and may cause an umbilical hernia at birth or later in life. An umbilical hernia can also happen in adults, mostly in women. Most hernias close on their own by age one on there own.…
In this week's chapter something that really jumped out at me was pregnancies within a jail or prison. this is something that I've never really thought about as I imagined it didn't happen all that often, but I was wrong. Pregnant and behind bars is said to be abusive to future mothers. This raises huge ethical and moral questions regarding should pregnant women be locked up.…
“Trauma represents just one category of mental states causing significant emotional harm to individuals” (Cohen). So if a woman gets pregnant from rape or incest and develops a trauma, an abortion will help remove the trauma and improve the mother’s emotional health. Moreover, “[If a woman] prefers to end her pregnancy, raising a profoundly disabled child might be thought to also impose significant [emotional] suffering” (Cohen). If a mother knows that her unborn child will be disabled, the mother will be depressed, but if she gets an abortion before the baby is born, this could improve the mother’s emotional health. Furthermore, “The rape case, the trauma, and the pregnancy have the same “cause” and are inextricably linked such that one cannot end one without the other” (Cohen).…
The topic I chose to write about for my process essay is a Cesarean section commonly known as a C-section. Women sometime struggle to have a natural birth. Everyone is not able to carry out a full term pregnancy. The Cesarean section allows for fetal distressed babies or any unborn baby to be safely removed from the womb. This medical process dates back to the first successful recorded C-section in 1500.…
