Aarp Program Reflection

With the new school year starting so does the ARP program. Although the program has only been running for one whole week i find myself remembering much of what has been covered during my time in both the ATP and ARP last year. Primarily looking over the syllabus there is a great deal of overlay in terms of the workshops and expectations. However, regardless of the limited time spent in the program this semester the differences are blatantly obvious primarily to prior knowledge i possess when starting the semester.Of course, not to forget new first for me a classmate freely and openly drinking alcohol during class. The workshops outlined in the syllabus are generally similar to the workshops that i have already completed last year. At the same time though the untold rules of writing at a first glance does appear to be a workshop that varies from my past experience with the program. That, of course, does not mean that writing styles have not been covered prior to my current third semester in the program however, i do look forward to see what could have been missed in past classes/workshops. It also generally goes without saying that in terms of expectations much of what is expected of me this semester is nearly exactly of what i have become accustomed to. Since my situation and enrollment in the program is rather unique there is a degree of expected overlay. However, that said the fact still remains that i still do look forward to any aid or advice in improving my ability to succeed in my academic goals. The workshops and expectations this semester are a review of sorts for me, but yet i see this as an advantage. With my experience in the program there is a key factor i noticed; this of course is that the first semester is perhaps the toughest to adjust too. This is due to a rapid decrease in class size that i noticed last

Dear Carolyn Boles Scholarship Committee, I have had a great first semester in college full of learning and meeting new people. I studied extremely hard the entire semester and was determined to get the best grades possible. My favorite class was psychology and I received a very good grade in the class, so I was asked to become a mentor for the class next school year. I also decided to work toward receiving a minor in health psychology because I loved the class so much. In another one of my classes, we learned about different health field careers in order to decide if nursing was right for us since it is such a competitive major at IUPUI.…

This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year. For instance when we had to record a News Show for Mr.Mora's class, I was faced with all of these problems.…

My Concerns about ESL 51 I think this course has had a good start for us since we began our two classes so far by writing two paragraphs in limited time which was about thirty minutes. I have some concerns in this class. To begin with, writing in the class most of the time is challenging for me specially if I have a limited time and no permission to use any dictionary for translating Farsi to English. So I become nervous and try to focus on the time and not my writing.…

AVID is Advancement Via Individual Determination. This class has shown me how I can think on a higher level and plan for college, and with-out this class my goal would not be close to what they are now. My first goal is to have a high G.P.A., That is the grade point average number representing the average value of the accumulated final grades earned in courses over time. This was something that was not very important to me, until I started taking this class and realized how much it was.…

This course has been very rewarding; I came into this course not knowing anything about APA format, had poor writing skills, and very little knowledge on courage, caring, and team building. Now at the end of the semester after taking this course I am confident in APA format and I have learned so much about courage, caring, and team building. Being a pre-nursing student this course is very rewarding because you get to see how courage, caring, and team building play a huge role in nursing. I think reading the two books was what I enjoyed most about this course.…

Being a first year college student was not as atrocious as I would have thought. Fortunately the guidance and confidence that EOP gave me was well established in my overall performance. The academic and social services provided by EOP created a great amount of benefit towards my academic success. EOP’s transitional program, Commuter Bridge is specifically designed to help first year college students acclimate into a new university environment. This head start experience that was provided for me truly exposed me to the demands of college, the required tools to successfully achieve such demands, and the creation of a support system with mentors who were previously EOP students.…

Many people come into college feeling unprepared, nervous, and unconfident, and while being convinced that I was indeed prepared, I couldn’t help but feel some of these stressful emotions. Over the past month and a half, I have adapted to my new environment that is Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), and feel much more sure of myself as I continue through this semester. I have learned about what skills and mindsets can lead to a successful college experience, such as hope, grit, and resilience. I have also been able to reflect on myself as a person, and identify strengths, values, and abilities I possess that I can use to my advantage. Finally, I have learned about different resources I have surrounding me, and different aspects of PLU that…

When I began my first English course, I was feeling excited because it was my first semester in college, studying in the United States, in a different language from mine. I remember my first assignment in English 101; we had to compose a narrative essay. I found it interesting because I had to narrate a story from my life. What I learned from it that a narrative essay should have a purpose and the construction of it should include introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. I also tried to be as organized as possible…
