As do many other people in society, I inhabit many roles in life, however the role I affiliate myself most is being a father of my beautiful 3-year-old girl. My daughter’s name is Aaliyah Tolliver and being the father to this little girl encompasses a lot. Aaliyah lives with me full-time, so she is always my first priority. My daily obligations to Aaliyah consist of getting her ready for school, picking her up from school, and feeding and bathing her after our long day. Overall, my obligation to Aaliyah is to raise her to the best of my abilities. So when it’s her turn to spread her wings and live her own life she makes the best choices possible and will always refer to her upbringing in moral and ethical reasoning. However, once you get past the hard stuff, being a father comes with its privileges. Such as being able to watch a beautiful human being grow into her own. There is no better feelings than being able to see you’ve raised a beautiful young soul into a young woman, which is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted and is really a privilege. Another privilege is you get to do kid things again, and who has more fun that kids? Often times as adults we are limited in doing fun things that kids would do and having a daughter opens a kids world up to you again and you really get to appreciate some things you might not have has a child. Being a father means the world to me, having Aaliyah really opened my eyes to what is important and helped me put life in perspective and come up with goals and a direction in life. Aaliyah taught me what love really is and what it should look and feel like. I appreciate her every day for that.
