There was no significant difference in the comparison groups regarding age or gender distribution. The average LOS for the historic group was 60.9 hours. The average LOS for the ACP group was 45.8 hours. This decrease in average LOS for the ACP group of 15.1 hours was statistically significant. All patients in the ACP group received a follow-up telephonic contact from a certified asthma educator within 30 days of discharge to reinforce the formal asthma education that was provided. CAC-3 adherence at this military institution was also consistently higher than the average adherence of all military hospitals and reporting civilian hospitals. In other words, the ACP improved the quality of inpatient asthma care at the institution
