Being close to the handle means it has a bigger barrel, closer to the handle, so it gives you a better chance for you to hit the ball better. Wood bats’ center of mass is closer to the top of the bat, and has a fairly small barrel. The center of a bats’ mass is also normally known as the barrel of the bat. What Happened in the Pine Tar Game With two outs in the top of the 9th inning and The Royals down a run to the Yankees, George Brett stepped up to the plate with a man on first base. A good baseball glove tends to gain sentimental value over the years. There’s nothing like catching a homerun ball hit by the other team to cause a player to get attached to his glove. Gloves aren’t just for catching though! Batters often use gloves too in order to help improve their grip on the bat and absorb shock. Don’t be surprised to find a variety of gloves in your ballplayer’s bag.…

Advancement of the Bat: Changing the Game “It’s a round ball and a round bat, and you got to hit it square.”(Pete Rose) The evolution of the bat has changed the game dramatically from the wood bat to the medal. Baseball is one of America’s greatest past times since 1846, because of all of the drama and excitement. I chose to investigate the environmental impact of gypsy moths because I have personally had experience cleaning up after these pests in northern Ohio and I know that they are becoming an issue in other parts of Ohio as well. I was able to witness some of the damage they have done while removing defoliated trees in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Gypsy moths are a non-native, invasive species that, over the past decade, have been coming into the state from Pennsylvania and Michigan. The moth undergoes a complete metamorphosis and while a caterpillar it has the ability to feed on over three hundred species of trees and shrubs and cause serious damage and defoliation. The moth’s preference for oak, make the oak tree particularly at risk because the caterpillars favor it and a tree can typically only withstand two years of defoliation before the damage is permanent or results in the death of the tree.…

I believe that Nagel 's primary conclusion in “What is it like to be a bat?” is that while there are multiple different forms of consciousness, humans cannot be sure of the presence of consciousness in lesser forms of animals, such as a bat. The “what it is like” for Nagel is reworded as being subjective character. The bat has subjective character, which is experience. Even though we know that bats hang upside down, have webbed arms and feet, and use echolocation, we will never truly know what it is like to be a bat. While we can all have thoughts on what it is like to be a bat, Nagel states that because everything has its own interpretation of itself, there is no way we can add specific information into our minds to actually see what it is…
