Cindi believes taking notes with a laptop is insufficient for the knowledge of a college student. For this claim, Cindi provided adequate evidence based on a study by Pam Mueller and Daniel Oppenheimer. Throughout the article, Cindi uses different rhetorical elements to help persuade the reader to agree with her claim. May demonstrates the rhetorical elements of audience, author, and purpose by writing for a magazine, providing her credentials, and offering evidence to support her claim.…
“You need a very clear structure to your talk. Work around the old maxim that you - Tell them what you’re going to tell them - Tell them - Tell them what you’ve told them. That is, you have a beginning, a middle and an end. Within this, there should be more explicit, concrete headings” (Rudd 2016)…
Today’s lesson will provide students with an understanding of how to craft a strong claim, substantiate a claim with evidence, and debate their positions, which is seen when a student finds a counterargument and relates it to his claim at 12:59. Students used listening and speaking skills to do this and will apply these skills to their writing and individual analysis of the characters in the text. Students will share…
Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…
As a person, creative writing has allowed me to positively release negative feelings and now I can put all of my frustrations into words, creating something magnificent. Over this past semester I’ve used the conversation metaphor by listening, becoming an expert, and taking a position. To being, the first part of the conversational metaphor is committed to listening to various discussions, find a topic of interest, listen to different people's perspectives, and create your own opinion of a controversial topic. While listening in, I did well staying unbiased when reading each side of the controversial topic.…
I am a Student Paramedic with the East Of England Ambulance NHS Trust and this essay will look reflectively at an incident I attended during the course of my duties. The assignment will reflect on the moral, ethical and legal aspects of pre-hospital care that challenged me during this particular emergency. Reflective practice is a requirement of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC, 2014). Rolfe, Freshwater and Jasper (2001) state, “we learn by doing and realising what came of what we did”.…
It is a personal goal that in this class, my students learn to reach for an elevated, academic voice through improvement in diction, tone, and writing style. In this class, students write three unit papers (a personal narrative, an argumentative paper, and a research essay), several…
The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…
Besides writing this course aided in improving my discussion techniques by having to devise comprehensive analysis during class and engage in the conversations. Before this class I rarely spoke in lectures but the environment made me feel comfortable enough to do so which was one of the most beneficial aspects of the course for myself. This course identifies the weakness and strength of the students writing skills giving them constructed feedback so they may be able to improve those…
Not only have I learned how to carry out a conversation through discussions, I have also learned how to compose an essay. When I began this class I was sure I knew how to write a paper and make it sound like I knew what I was talking about. Upon completion of my first essay I discovered just how wrong I was. While there were a minimal amount of errors, the errors present made my essay sound as if it had been written by a child. After making the suggested corrections, I saw just how much my essay improved.…
Growing up a Caucasian, upper middle-class child in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I remember experiencing a sense of perplexity every time I visited my neighborhood grocery store. While one side of the store served a demographic population similar to my own, the other side catered to the low-income, predominately African American population located in the adjacent neighborhood. My grocery store represented the diversity of my city, causing me to question why such diversity did not exist in my educational experience. My parents, like many financially able families in my area, sent me to a private college preparatory school to avoid the failing school system in East Baton Rouge Parish. While my school’s white population totaled eighty percent, Caucasian children represented the minority group in my neighborhood public school.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…
When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
Many people have a place that is extremely special in their eyes. It could be a spot where they killed their first deer, high school football field, or any place they hold dear to their hearts. When they look back on experiences and memories, there is that one special spot that sticks out. When we think of our significant place we are easily to describe the feelings we grasped from past memories, and exactly what the place looked like. At first thought, our significant place is flawless, and we tend to forget the bad times and instead focus on the good.…
