1. It would be an honor to have the opportunity to take part in the AVID junior trip for a numerous amounts of reasons. First, it will be a great opportunity to bond with peers and make lifelong memories. Second, and most important of all it would be a great opportunity to visit colleges out of the Southern California region. The only college trip I have participated in was to Cal State Fullerton in middle school, so this trip would definitely be a change.
2. I would benefit in various ways from this trip. I will gain exposure to colleges around California considering the only college campus I have ever visited is Cal State Fullerton. It would be an eye opener and have a vast impact on my decision as to what college I will be attending after I graduate in 2018. More opportunities will be accessible and made possible through this amazing trip.
3. Personally I am not positive, however; I would consider leaving the Southern California region for college. Throughout my high school career I have only received two B’s on my transcript. I can say I have been academically successful in school this far. I believe I deserve an opportunity to be chosen as one of the applicants to go on the junior trip because I have been hard working. Although this is my first year in Avid I have strived to become a great Avid student by participating in community service and attending every Avid Club meeting. I do this for the sole purpose to inform my class of what is coming up next on the Avid schedule. I contain the qualities in a student needed to have a successful trip. I will not start any dilemmas nor cause any problems

I believe I am a good candidate to be selected for the Robert Vela High School National Honor Society because I am a dedicated student. My grades do reflect my abilities as a student, but my work ethic in the co-curricular activities that I participate is what really defines it as I put a lot of time and effort into them. In U.I.L. calculator applications, which is the main activity that I partake in, I sacrifice my time almost everyday after school and sometimes my lunch period throughout the school year, as well as the majority of my Saturdays to compete and practice. Not a lot of students would give up this much time and effort unless they are very dedicated. This also reflects my leadership and character as one has to work and communicate…

I went on Mizzou Alternative Break trip to South Carolina this spring break. We were strangers when we started the trip, but we became really close after 7 days of working together. I enjoyed it so much, because we don't usually have chance to share some time together with a group of new friends. Meeting new people is getting in touch with brand new stories and world. It is a very fun experience and I think every one should have some time to meet with new people every now and then, so we are not locked in our own limited…

Attending GHP would be a dream come true because I have desired the opportunity to participate in GHP since freshmen year when I learned what GHP is. It is an amazing program that could help me grow not only as a student but also a person. I believe that GHP will provide me with a unique experience which will further my preparedness for college. It will be my first time traveling for an elongated period of time without my family alongside me. Additionally, we are given more support from a teacher in high school than that given in college, so I will encounter the effort required to do well in college.…

In the article entitled “Tour of Duty” by Sheila Suess Kennedy and Matt Impink, it is stated that student-loan debt and civil literacy are both issues of note in American society. They contend that the institution of a program for high school graduates that would trade a year of “employment with a government agency or nonprofit organization focused on civic improvement” (Kennedy/ Impink) for two years of financial aide towards all costs of a higher, public education. The authors state that a similar program was instituted nearing the end of World War II that gave financial benefits to war veterans. Kennedy and Impink also point out that “defending the United States is an important goal, but military service is only one aspect of that defense. It is equally important that citizens understand just what our military is protecting.”…

If I want something, I’ll go after it, so that’s why I want to enroll into AVID again. I’ll do anything to get into this if it means that I’ll get the required skills that will help me once I get into a college.…
