ATI Reflection

Decent Essays
If I were given a chance to retake my ATI, I would plan to organize my testing taking and studying efficiently. I would stay current with due dates/course calendars. It’s not enough to have a system I have to use it! So to prepare for the examinations, I will read the ATI books by using the focus reviews. The only way to retain the knowledge is through an understanding of the subject matter and testing with a lot of rationales. I would use my Hurst review, and ATI practice exams to get better at taking the test. I would try to sleep early before the exam so that I can use my brains full potential. I would wake up earlier to study so that I can retain things better. Study early and often. Breaking my studying into shorter periods of time will

My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…

Sandra, I could think of one area in which to me the 5Cs did not do a good enough job for improved patient outcomes and that would be in the area of patient identification because it relies on verbal affirmation of name (Institute for Safe Medical Practices, 2011). I work at the VA and for whatever reason I have and can have three John Richardsons in one night to care for of my six patients all clustered in the same area (some may be spelled slightly different)! Or all my patients or in for the same condition. I have had to stop many doctors from going into the wrong room to consult on a patient when they have just scribbled the name of the patient on a piece of paper. Sometimes I do not catch them in time and they walk out asking why certain…

Class #1 No readings (yet) Course introduction and overview I am extremely excited about PACS 331 and the content that we are going to cover throughout the term. I’ve always been interested in trauma healing and hope that after the course I will be more knowledgeable about identifying trauma and about how to help those who have experienced or are experiencing it. I personally think that the idea of these journals is a great learning tool. Taking the time to reflect on learning is something that often is tossed aside until dreaded midterms and finals where the lessons are required to be absorbed, usually at a thoughtless and rushed pace.…

Day 2 at PPI went REALLY fast then I expected. I was so excited to be back on the 4th floor and to see how my patient from Tuesday was doing. When I arrived on the unit I got to attend 3 o’clock group with other client. I was looking for my client when we entered, but she was not in a group, so I decided to seat and wait for her. I also learned how to keep my personal and academic life separate. I did recover over time and pulled up my grades but if I had learned these lessons a little earlier then I would not be in this position right now. Over time I did make some changes and there was a definite improvement in my grades but unfortunately it wasn't early enough to pass. For IDR, even though my personal stress did hamper my grades Dr. Coffman’s teaching style also played a vital role. Not just me a lot of people (~20) failed the exam for the second block.…
