This program is designed to give AT&T’s prime suppliers all the possible resources they need in order to establish their own diversity programs within their organization. The program also outlines how the company can attack problems with better business solutions through diversification. The program has integrated a tool called VMOD (Virtual Matchmaking On Demand Matchmaking). VMOD is a round-the-clock program that allows the prime suppliers to instantly be matched with MWDVBE (minority, women, disabled, veteran owned business enterprise) suppliers who can best meet their subcontracting …show more content…
He spoke about a close African-American friend of his named Chris, and some of his views. Stephenson said he had known this man for so many years but didn’t know about his friend’s views on racial tension. When Chris was asked to give a discussion at his church, Stephenson learned a lot about the way Chris had been treated his whole life because of the color of his skin. Chris spoke about how as a child, he and his sisters were the first to integrate elementary schools in Southern Louisiana, he had bricks thrown into his home, he could not associate with the Southern Baptist church because the leaders were all members of the Ku Klux Klan, he had been called many unspeakable names, he had been followed in stores, and been treated poorly just because of his skin color. Stephenson wondered how he could been so close to Chris for so long without discussing the race issue with him. Stephenson goes on to ask, “If two very close friends of different races don’t talk openly about this issue that’s tearing our communities apart, how do we expect to find common ground and solutions for what’s a serious serious problem” (AT&T CEO: 'Tolerance Is for Cowards' in Speech on Racial Tensions)? Stephenson says we are too polite to talk about this issue at times, even amongst best friends. It is not a pleasant conversation to have, but it will increase our understanding of others
