As a Family Advocate, I work with families and children from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. It is important to focus on building relationships of mutual trust, confidence, and respect for diverse families. After completing the observations, the anti-bias curriculum is a must to reflect the culture and background of the families and children in the program. Many families I work with are low income. My goal is to create an environment where children and families from different backgrounds can feel comfortable and belonging.…
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to attend North Dakota State University. My dad and sister are NDSU alumni, so furthering my education where they did provides us with a unique bond. Additionally, not many of my relatives attended college, allowing me to see the difficulties in providing for oneself and family without a college degree. Although I know the next seven years are going to be challenging, extremely strenuous, and will push me to the edge of my comfort zone, the satisfaction of administering medical services to those who need them will make it worthwhile. Not only will I be able to care for others with a Pharm.…
I am a first-year student at the University of Waterloo and interested in applying for the Technical Support position at your prestigious engineering Asus. My passion towards digital circuits and technology, and the hands-on-experience which I gained by working in a fast-paced technical environment. I would love to work at Asus, as it has constantly challenged conventions to provide creative engineering solutions to all customers. During my leisure time in high school, I spend my time researching and gathering knowledge about various gadgets and new technologies, and I would enjoy working with them as a co-op student at Asus.…
My goal is to enter into TCU through the railroad mechanical worker track. I have a desire to create a career in the railroad industry. There is a high demand for skilled workers, and many young people are not pursuing this route, but instead opting to pursue college careers. I see this as a way to standout in the marketplace, and diversify my skill set allowing to be both a welder and a railroad worker giving me an even greater amount of job security as opposed to having only one trade. I have excelled in the use of computers since I was able to walk.…
Personal Statement Almost everyone had a rod in hand as they walked through the main street headed for the pier or docks to try and reel in a tasty morsel for dinner. In my small fishing village surrounded by serene mountains and lush waters, I grew up distant from many of life’s amenities and creature comforts. Surrounded by family and relatives, I lived in a capsule of love. Little did I know that in several years, I would be on a plane bound for the United States, uncertain about my future but resolve in my dreams.…
My hands are anxiously trembling, as I unopen my letter from Eastern Washington University. As I open the letter, the first words my eyes came across was "Congratulations on your acceptance to EWU Fall quarter 2014! " I remember being extremely happy. I accepted to attend EWU. In August, a month before move in day, everything changed.…
I am a student at Patton Elementary in Garden Grove, California. I may only be in sixth grade, but I have high hopes for college. I would like to get my doctorate degree in mathematics, but I am also interested in playing basketball at UNC. I play basketball currently and I was on the All Star team this year. I think UNC rocks because they have an amazing basketball program and they also rock in academic work.…
Supporting Narrative In April 2015, I applied for experiential learning credits towards my Bachelor of Science degree in the Office Administration and Technology program. As a result, I earned three credits for ACED 2940 Basic Admin Office Skills and four credits for ACED 3940 Intermediate Admin Office Skills. Once again, I will demonstrate how work experience, technical skills, and personal development have provided me with college-level learning. This year will mark my ninth year working full-time for a local government agency as an administrative assistant and recording-secretary.…
On June 8th of 2016 I was given a Minor In Possession (MIP) ticket that I thought, at the time, I didn’t deserve. I desperately needed a ride back home so I decided to ask one of my friends to take me home that was visiting Austin. When I entered the car that morning I knew that it smelled of marijuana and that there were open bottles of liquor. However, I told myself, “I don’t smoke and this alcohol isn’t mine.…
When I never thought that I would spend my first two years of college at a community college. I applied to the universities I had in mind during my final year in high school and got accepted into all of them. Unfortunately, the cost was too much to go to any of the colleges, and the scholarship money was barely enough to pay for an entire year. The Honors College Fellows Scholarship was awarded to me, and the Honors College at Lone Star College-North Harris would cover the cost of my first two years of college. It was an Honors College at this community college, and a lot of what I have learned and gained is thanks to this program.…
Realizing my powers” Everything we do in life is meaningful in one way or another; however, most people don’t realize that until it's too late. I was one of those people! After much thought and valuable experiences, I finally was able to “realize my power.” The power to learn, to grow, to do things I never thought I could helped me to become a better person. There are things that we have done throughout our lives that we have taken advantage of and do not ever realize how important they are.…
My parents never received any college education and the highest education they were able to get was my mom a somewhat education while my dad never passed fifth grade. Due to having a low education they weren’t able to get a good job by only being accepted as factory workers in a meat company. I had always looked up to my parents as they were constantly encouraging me to graduate high school and move on to college since I am a first generation to nearly high school. Before moving on to high school my parents went through a rough time. Just recently, the factory my dad had worked in shutdown, which left him unemployed.…
I have always been one for thinking big, dreaming big and achieving big. That's the reason I came to this country in the first place; away from my loving and caring parents, away from my little brother who needs me by his side and away from my home country, which I believe one day I'll be blessed to go back to and be the strong difference maker I've always dreamt of being. I love my current university, Augie(Augustana University). In soon to be one year of my stay here, Augie is the place I've made lots of friends from so many different countries; Augie is the place I got to learn so much more about life than I previously did and grow even more mature; Augie is the place where I repeatedly step outside of my comfort zone, which, while a bit…
Throughout my entire academic journey, I have been through an abundance of ups and downs. Most of my academic success and triumphs began in high school. During elementary and middle school, my academic journey was very mediocre. During high school, I achieved many things such as placing first in the districts history fair, graduating with my A.A. degree in sociology, and being captain of my high school soccer team. I also faced some very devastating challenges involving myself and my family.…
Have you ever achieved a goal of yours that has made you feel overwhelmingly proud of yourself? I have accomplished that in my life by graduating high school and receiving my Diploma. I feel this has been my greatest accomplishment in life by far due to the fact that it made my mother proud, I accomplished my benchmarks, and it even gave me a great amount of opportunities after high school. To begin, I believe that graduating high school is almost unattainable without the support of your loved ones who only want you to prosper and my mother did just that for 4 challenging years.…
