I was in the middle of an after school rehearsal for our upcoming musical, and the number one rule in rehearsal was no cell phones. I blurted out a jumble of words about how sorry I was, and ran off stage to grab the phone and silence it. When I reached for it, my screen informed me that it was my mother calling. I certainly didn’t want two scoldings in one day, so I answered the call prepared to tell her I was busy. Before I could say a thing she shouted, “Your letter is here.” My immediate reaction was to be nervous. Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA) was a school for high achieving juniors and seniors, and they only selected the best students from Arkansas. I had applied a few months earlier, and the wait to see if I had gotten in was killing me. It was obvious from the tone of my mother’s voice and her insistence on …show more content…
My future is one of the most important things to me; because of this I have always put focus on my education, worked my hardest to achieve understanding of the subjects I am taking, and tried my best in those subjects. At ASMSA the effort I had to put into these tasks doubled. I have a few health problems which are considered to be disabilities. These disabilities require medication, some which cause drowsiness and frequent trips to the doctor. My medication and doctor’s visits usually cause me to miss more than a desired amount of school. Though my missed days had proven to be a challenge in the past, I made it through all of my classes at my old school quite easily. ASMSA was definitely different, I had to make it my top priority to stay focused on my education and keep my grades up. I had to be persistent about acquiring my course work and finishing it in a timely

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…
