The reforming time period from 1775 to 1830 was full of diverse changes. However, the “peculiar institution” and the changes it brought was one of the most noteworthy. I still remember when I was seven years old and how my grandpa would come visit my grandma once or twice a week. I would be so happy to see him because he would always call me over and sit me down next to him so that we could watch the history channel together. We would sit there for hours and watch documentaries on everything imaginable. One documentary that I will never forget is one that we watched that was talking about how the Romans built the Colosseum and their aqueducts. That was when I first realized that I liked designing and how I liked seeing how buildings were designed and built.…

    1) One technology that has changed our sensory relationship with the world is automobiles. The automobile has changed everything in our world through our relationships to sensory, from the way people live all over the world, to our society such as family life, to the economy, and even the environment. Let's first look at a world before automobiles and for example our medieval peasant, let's say he needed to go into town, he would have had to use his wagon or horse and let’s say he couldn't afford either, he would have had to walk for many miles. Today things are much different because of the automobile I can get into my car and drive to the next town, which might take 45 minutes to an hour or even less. If I wanted to I can get in my car and drive to New Mexico and be there in a day where our medieval peasant it would take him a week or so to get there where he have bad blisters, and probably sun poisoning.…

The Lego Star Wars Millenium Falcon, or the Lego Mindstorms NXT? I have never been good at making decisions, even when it comes to toys. There are always so many different options, each of them so amazingly amusing and unique, that I cannot stand getting them all. Struggling to pick a toy may seem frivolous, but when it comes to the question of what I want to do in the future, it’s the real deal.…

Throughout this course we have not only gained factual knowledge about East Asia but also a framework that we can use to understand other countries and cultures around the world. To consider ourselves global citizens, we must have an understanding of the world and the way it works. From learning about the history of East Asia, we now have a better understanding of why it works the way it does today, and that makes us less ethnocentric and more empathetic toward others. This course has allowed me the opportunity to grow more as a global citizen, and to see where I have achieved and failed at pushing to see beyond myself and be a more inclusive person.
