1. AP Geography Collaboration (2016). With 90% of my freshman Avid students enrolled in AP geography it is imperative to collaborate with Chris Mason, their teacher, on their progress and decipher interventions for specific students. Not only is this class of high rigor, but it also is the first semester that 9th graders are taking an Advanced Placement class. After analyzing test scores for the first unit test it became apparent that further support was necessary. Impact: With support of Mason, an hour of time is scheduled into the 9th grade Avid elective class each week in order for students to edit and complete Cornell Notes, make vocabulary note cards, and participate in peer study games. From the 1st to 2nd test, 60% of Avid students increased their overall test scores. On average from the 2nd to 3rd unit test, Avid students increased by over 10%. Sierra Teacher Vertical Alignment (2013-2016). Over the past 3 years Beth Nelson, Sierra Marketing teacher, and I have worked together to walk through curriculum maps and exchange project and lesson ideas. Impact: Through this partnership we have increased data tracking at both schools as well as increase use of technology in the Marketing classroom through the use of Secretive.
6. Avid and AP videos with Fox News photojournalist (2013, 2015). With the help of Mindy Simons, Cheri Martinez, and Mike Duran (Fox 21 News Chief Photojournalist) we have created 2 videos that consult the reasons behind why HHS believes in Avid, as focus on Advanced Placement and its overall impact on HHS. Impact: Both videos have had a far reach ranging from recruitment nights to being sent across district emails to being profiled to all Avid schools in the Western division.
