I am interested in communicative arts, due to my love of English and fascination of literature. I look forward to my AP English Language Composition class throughout the day, so I know I’ll be fond of exploring communicative arts for four weeks during the summer. I wish to attend GHP to learn more about linguistics, creative writing, speech, and literary studies. I think I should be selected to attend GHP, because I not only excel in class, I like to get to know the big picture. When analyzing a novel I try and find the how’s and why’s, I look thoroughly for new words to expand my vocabulary, I write fiction and poetry in my free time. Basically I eat, sleep, and breathe English.

Secondly, knowing the audience that the speaker is talking to helps convey the tone because it gives the speaker a sense of what word choice and emotions need to be hit in order to get the response that is desired. This quote by Vince Lombardi states, “We didn’t lose the game, we just ran out of time.” That quote approximately means that just because a scoreboard states that you lost a game doesn’t mean you didn’t have the potential in the end to beat a team with a little more time. Using that meaning of the quote, the reader can assume that this quote was wrote by someone like a coach of some kind which also helps the reader know that the audience must be athletes. With that, people can infer that this coach was trying to invoke…

Final Exam Essay Prompt: Write about what, specifically, you are going to do with your new found knowledge. They say knowledge comes from experiences, and the experiences this past year have shed a different light on my world. Our actions are direct effects of the world surrounding us, causing every choice I now make to direct, and redirected by many of the recent things we have learned. From grammar rules to discussion points, and the words of our various authors, I have gained new perspective because each lesson has taught me something new, and often it was about myself even more so than the assignment.…

Dear. Mrs. Kreider, I am so excited to be in your class this year! I have always loved to read and analyze literature, and I know this year will be no different. I have taken Pre AP or AP English every year it has been available to me, and I decided to take AP Lit to continue the same high level of English discussion and analysis I have enjoyed each year of high school. Along with expecting to delve deep into the discussion of various books, plays, and poems, I also expect that this year, in AP English 12, we will discuss the differences between last years AP Language exam and this year's AP Literature exam and get plenty of practice with both AP multiple choice and the three free response question styles.…

In all aspects of society, various themes that affect everyone in life exist. These themes include love, heartbreak, beauty, death, joy, and others. Literature often embodies these examples in ways that the audience can relate to, no matter the time period it is published in. Poems can express the themes of love and death better than many other forms of literature, as they tend to be shorter. Two poems, “My Mistress’ Eyes Are Nothing Like the Sun” and “Death, Be Not Proud,” are sonnets, with fourteen lines and a form of rhyming scheme known as iambic pentameter.…

Accelerated English 4 has been a class that has been one of my best English classes. The class taught me many new techniques along with improving my skills that I already knew, though not all were improved. My strength in vocabulary was still as high as it was while my ability to transition had improved quite well, though my ability to create a well styled paper was still suffering. When Accelerated English 4 started there was no excitement about the papers I would have to write.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

I found this practice a little bit challenging. I found it challenging because I’m not very good at analyzing passages for AP exams. I figured that out last year in AP Literature. Although I did do well on this one I was very anxious about my answers because with passages and literature, I think everything is more of an opinion than anything. Everyone interprets things differently, especially hard, long passages on the AP exam.…

Throughout English Composition 1, I have learned several crucial writing skills. Writing skills that will benefit me in other classes, outside of school, and during my future college years. Not only will these benefit my overall writing and making it flow better, it will all in all make more sense to the readers. Even though I learned many skills and objectives during this semester, four skills really stood out to me. Cohesion, comma usage, the use of satire, and how to write a definitional essay.…
