Experiencing a course that is new is both intimidating and challenging at the same time. The realization of taking a harder class made me change my studying habits as well as doing independent learning to fully understand the concept of the materials that were given. Even though people say, ”You should get out of your comfort zone and do something different “ is something that I was afraid of since it was not something I used to; but I learned that every once in awhile people should take a risk and be open minded in everything they do.

Taking my first AP class was something that changed my life for the better in realizing how different high school teaching is from college teaching. I was always fascinated in chemistry when I took the course during sophomore year; learning about how chemical react with one another creating something phenomenon and learning how a reaction takes place in a microscopic levelled me to take AP Chemistry. AP Chemistry teaches chemistry in a whole different level where chemical reactions can determine whether it is either a redox/ oxidation equations, equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics and etc. The class is also a faster pace as well because the teacher needs to teach the student the topics they need to

Also, I realized that I could not cram it all in the night before a test either since there are a lot of information that needed to be taught there are going to be fewer exams causing multiple chapters to be one test. Self studying is a major learning ability that I had to do by myself since the class was a fast paced, so I had to learn materials on my own and prepare myself because the topics that were taught are the building blocks for the following chapters and without the basic knowledge I would get lost/ confused through the whole

Any course with the designation “AP” sounded challenging, but an intensified class like AP Biology sounded more challenging, due to its extensive lab reports and difficult scientific concepts. Taking AP Biology felt like being a doctor, wearing a lab coat or writing a report for every lab we experimented with. AP Biology not only covered the human body at a molecular level, but also provided me the experience of what working in a lab truly felt like. The experience and the class fascinated me and helped me gain some practical experience with tools such as centrifuges or micropipettes. Like AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology also provided me with lab experience in dissecting various organisms.…

Psychology 201 has been a very intriguing course for me so far. I really enjoyed learning about how the brain works and how big of a role it plays in our lives. Some specific areas of psychology I enjoyed studying were Operant Conditioning, the theories of motivation, and Jean-Dominique Bauby. Operant Conditioning was a familiar concept, even though I was not familiar with the specific terminology. I think reinforcement and punishment are very interesting topics that apply to everyone's lives.…

Actually, I am still in the most challenging academic course I have taken to date, AP United States History (APUSH). APUSH has been difficult for me due to the fact that I had very little knowledge of US history preceding my enrollment in the class. Furthermore, prior to this class I had never really had to study extensively to maintain high marks. APUSH has been different. Having little knowledge of this material, I have had to spend much more time studying.…

I will be taking general chemistry and biology—both are the foundation of their field. When I master the material taught in those classes, I will be better prepared for my future courses in chemistry and biology. Since I was in elementary school, my father emphasized the importance of understanding the material rather than just knowing and getting the correct answer. I followed his advice, but I did not actually see the difference between knowing and understanding until spring 2014.…

I work in a school district and I believe that a school is the heart of the community. It is where we meet our neighbors, where our children make friends and families gather for school activities. It is about people. When you have a neighborhood that is struggling, you will also find the school is struggling. As I watched the video Building Expectations, Portrait of Lincoln High School there was definitely signs that this community was careworn.…

On the first day of school, I remember walking into class and seeing all of the new people in my class. I also remember meeting all of my new teachers. I had no idea how much that I would learn, and I had no idea how much I would struggle to learn the new material. One particular class that I feel that I have learned a lot in is WHAP. WHAP stands for world history AP.…

I decided to enroll in AP Government and Economics it is the class that has the most utility for me. Starting towards the middle of freshman year in Honors Global History, I thought going into a higher history class was a good idea, so I decided to enroll in AP US History, which was one of the better decisions in my life. That class was a good experience so I wanted to take AP again in junior year. There are multiple benefits that drove me to make this decision; the first is content. In every single class in school (maybe except for math), I want to learn the most about that subject so AP would provide the huge benefit of having the most content so I would learn the most about the government and macroeconomics.…

My junior year, I decided to take my first Advanced Placement class, which was AP Chemistry. It was easy at first because it was all review from the general chemistry class I had taken the previous year. Then it started to get really hard. I had drifted through all of highschool with never needing to study before and suddenly I was studying for hours every night. The stress was really taking a toll on me and I slacked off third quarter.…

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

Reflecting on your previous writing can bring to light how your writing skills have improved and grown into your current writing. Previously, I had been exposed to a lot of writing and reading in my AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature classes in high school. The writing skills that I had learned in both classes dealt with analysis papers pertaining to a specific prompt or style. I also had been exposed to lots of literature, specifically short novels and poetry that I had to interpret. My high school AP English classes prepped me for the college level writing class at High Point University.…

English 106 was the first real college class that I ever stepped foot in, and because of that, I was extremely nervous and unsure. The English teachers at my high school always said that the papers they assigned were held to college standards, and I always did well on those assignments, but I was still unsure about this course. I expected this course to be loaded with reading and writing assignments that would make me pull all-nighters on a regular basis. After going through English 106, I realized that there were not too many assignments and that I learned a lot from each one. To me, the most salient parts of this course were the discourse community paper, the annotated bibliography, the art analysis, peer reviews, revisions, and reflections.…

Goal I The first goal of the program was to “Apply major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology to prepare for graduate study or careers in which psychological training is relevant”(). Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…
