AP Capstone Class Reflection

Creativity, headaches, research, more headaches, and nervous breakdowns are kind words to describe my year round inside an AP Capstone classroom. Without a doubt, the class was one of a kind compared to any other classroom. Before I get into all the action I have to start from the bottom where it all started. It was a sunny summer day when I received a phone call from Ms. Puentes explaining to me what this class would be about. Based on what she said it convinced me to take the challenge. From the start I knew it will be a hard class, but as any other class it will be doable.

First of all, to be successful in the classroom the students will have to understand what the process for the whole school year would be. Basically the whole year consists of three huge tasks that each are essential for each student's performance. At first, two presentations and one final test sounds like a piece of cake. However, as the days start coming closer to the due dates stress starts

I was able to research something I liked and make an open argument about it. This was easier because the first task had gotten everyone prepared for it. After all task one and task two were successful presentations because of how prepared we were. Task three was the easiest one of all. Even though it is the "final test" it is a test that you are prepared for because you have been given practices and you are basically ready for.

If I had the choice to do this class again I would do it. Without a doubt, I will think different on how to get things done, but I will still enjoy it. AP Capstone is a difficult class, but if you are not up for the challenge you are not enjoying school. Future advice for future capstone students is to have patience and be ready to work as soon as you sit on the desk. If you are interested in the topic you are doing you will love this class. One last thing, ask your pals about the big three. Oh yeah, and

One thing that this ACA-122 class has taught me is how to email somebody properly; such as a professor, teacher, or anyone really. It’s impacted me because I had questions and had to email someone, but I didn’t know the correct format and how. The second thing is time management. Yes, you will have a ton of assignments due, but you have at least three weeks to do it for ACA. It impacted me because I do procrastinate and if you do that, it can be a problem for ACA.…

Several million students traverse the hallways of high school every single day. Often these students are stressed and overwhelmed, especially those in their junior year. In the article by Jay Mathews, he correctly points out a variety ways in how to handle this hard year. I had a lovely experience during the socratic seminar held in class. Prior to this seminar, I have participated in one in my Earth Science class. We had the guiding question of “Should we mine the moon?” and the class period went similar to ours. I personally adore public speaking when I am well prepared, so my contributions were out of pure enjoyment.…

It was the second week of school junior year, in my third-period physics class. The bell rang shrilly, signaling the commencement of my own living hell. The teacher - a small, wiry man with a bit too much bite - sat in the back of the room. Grade book, and red pen in hand, he waited impatiently with a cold glare. The clock's ticking was loud in my ears and mixed with my rapid heartbeat.…

During the time of my years that I have lived, I have not faced any challenges that were harder academically than taking AP classes. Throughout my years I have faced challenges like riding a bike, walking on my own two feet, or driving a car, but nothing like taking your first AP classes in the senior year. Throughout high school, I kept it out of the way that I would ever take honors or AP classes, but here I am now taking my first AP classes. As now being in the middle of the first 6 week grading period, I have overcome the challenge by doing better on focusing a lot more on school work and not procrastinate and also giving up on certain things like not spending too much time on games lower all the fun activities at a minimum which benefited…

ACA Reflection In the process of preparing for college, I was equipped with little information on the development of who I am and how I learn best in school. Although this lack of personal knowledge existed in the beginning of my high school career, it did not occur forever. ACA 115 opened new realms of understanding that came with being a student, allowing for me to learn new things about myself and the way that I acquire skills of a subject.…

In William Zinsser’s article, “College Pressures,” he explains the four pressures students faced in the late 1970’s. The pressures include: economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure and self-induced pressure. These students had an immense amount of pressure, and Zinsser’s wish was for them to delight in their educational journey. Granted, the pressures Zinsser mentions continue to exist nowadays; current students face even greater pressures. For one, in order to afford tuition, books and essential expenses, thousands of student work a full time job.…

A capstone is a project that all seniors at SWCTA are required to complete within a semester and a half in order to demonstrate the skills and the knowledge that they have gained during their time at SWCTA. This project varies from program to program due to the difference between the specialties in each program area. For the automotive division, our project required us to form teams to create and develop a car dealership. I teamed up with Stone Sha, Matthew Burgos, Shann Pagado, and Thomas Norsworthy to take on our final challenge before graduation. Our group’s first objective was to decide the car franchise for our dealership.…

Sophomore year has been an interesting year so far. The first day I walked into AP World History (aka WHAP) confident, but slightly nervous for the workload to come. It was just an intro-first day type of thing, but Chapter 1 had already been assigned. I remember thinking “All ready? It’s just the first day of school!”…

Written language is a trait known to be only possessed by mankind. Although other species may have audible forms of communication, man is able to record and document his thoughts, feelings, or events that have unfolded in a way that can be viewed multiple times without him having to use his voice over and over. Literacy is a skill that adults in the United States are expected to have; but the level of your literacy says a lot about you and can have a tremendous impact on what career you end up in. For this reason, this college English class is a requirement for all those seeking a degree. Not only did I learn how to think of subjects and topics more objectively, but I learned a multitude of different modes and strategies I can employ in my writing.…

Capstone class has challenged my communication, writing, and presentation skills. These skills I have improved on and found my voice in doing presentation. Working in a group has thought me on how to communicate with difficult people especially when everyone has their own opinion. Even though the workload was intense under a short time frame it was rewarding, challenging, and manageable. I learned that I could complete an assignment under pressure and in a short time frame.…

Everyone has a different work/learning style and pace. Everyone has a different perspective and values different things. I think it is hard for college students to see but this project is very realistic and is very good preparation for real teaching. Another thing I valued about or class is that you attended to our human emotional needs. Class began with you carefully scaffolding our social interactions by showing us respect, letting us free write, gradually letting us edit and read each other 's work and finally actually writing together.…
