The purpose of this lab is to examine cross sections from the leaves of C3 and C4 plants and to determine the morphological differences between them while relating those differences to their metabolism. In C3 plants the carbon dioxide is first incorporated into a 3-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place throughout the mesophyll cells. In comparison C4 plants, the CO2 is first incorporated into a 4-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place within the inner cells.…
The groups were decided at random, and I was placed luckily with two very close friends, Josefeth and Reyna, and Kevin, a student who did not have the best reputation for completing his assignments. I felt from the beginning that I might end up doing more work than Kevin, but I decided to trust that he would not let the group down when so many points were at stake. We began delegating responsibilities amongst ourselves and made progress as they days went by. Nearing the deadline, we checked on each others progress a few days prior to the due date. Reyna, Josefeth, and I had each completed our segments of the assignment, and Kevin had assured us that he, too, had completed his portion.…
We work in teams of 8-12 people. We come from all walks of life. Everybody has different styles, beliefs, personalities, goals, and temperaments. One of the challenges here is being able to balance between one another. At times it was stressful and difficult.…
Co-Ed sports teams consist of athletes of both genders. These types of teams are typically only available for the younger kids, but what if it was an option for the older players too? Having the option to play co-Ed sports could be a massive push in the right direction for both the children involved, and the reputation of the school promoting it. The school would likely be the only one in town offering the student athletes a fun and healthy way to learn to work with others, relieve themselves from stress, and learn to have mutual respect for others no matter your differences. Co-Ed sports teams could be a great way to learn to work with others, help them make friends, and a healthy relief from school stress for everyone.…
In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…
For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…
Teamwork during online college classes was a brand-new experience for me. While this is my seventh online class to take since starting college in January. The other six classes I have taken all contained discussions, where I was only obligated to have simple conversations. To be held accountable and need input from others was a very stressful situation for me. I was concerned about offending my classmates by criticizing their work and not completing the assignment in enough time for them to edit their own paper.…
I learned quickly that you must support yourself mentally in order to provide for others. In one activity, we had to create a project to present to the class, and my group was the first one to go. We had no examples to base our ideas off of, so our group was working individually, but trying to push our individualism all together. I knew that we needed to work together in order to create a project worth presenting. We began by asking for each person's ideas and their plans on how the project should go, and we all learned that we may have had different ideas, but our main goal was all the same; to create an interactive presentation that a class would enjoy.…

The person that had caused the issues the semester before was gone, so the group dynamic changed. We had established early on that no leader was the best way to work on this project, and it worked the first semester but the second semester we had specific objective, and more people joined the group. I came up with the idea of dividing the work up among the five people in the group and the new members. My two areas of the project were to be the first to accomplish in the timeframe we had. I set up meeting times, with those I was working with and we accomplished one of our task in a three day timeframe.…
While I was working in my group I learned a lot about talking with other groups. One major thing that learned was that compromises were and still are very important in almost everything that we do. I learned that working in a group with a big project like that is very important so that we could all have different inputs and ideas to go off of. When each group member gives an input it will be better that if only one person thinks about it. Than it may not have all of the information needed.…
Secondly, when faced with working in small groups, I will first observe those who I can relate to and those I feel as though I need to be cautious around (Schultheiss et al., 2005). Although, I will use this as motivation to be brave and risk my feelings when speaking up. Because the group is small, it is a good step to include to get me used to working with others and help me create positive relations with the individuals in my class. My conscientiousness though will drive me to keep trying and overcome my neurotic and introverted tendencies (Murray et al., 2009). Once I get used to working with the different people in groups, I hope to feel more comfortable in the class as a whole.…
and I covered WWII. Separating into smaller groups was a great idea because it divided the work between all of us to ensure everyone was contributing. I was extremely fortunate to have had respectful, dedicated individuals working alongside me. In chapter sixteen, goal setting is identified as an important part of group and team building. Not all students are naturally driven to complete admirable work.…
For instance, weighting the yeast and glucose concentration, preparing equipment, and observing the experiment are carefully assigned to each person. However, one problem is that we have to share one water bath with 2 others groups and we have to wait for other group to finish. Therefore, we couldn’t able to do all the yeast concentration or repeat the experiments that have random errors during the class time. As a group, I think communications between partners need to be improved.…
As a result, few did not have any idea how far we have been in the work we were doing. It was a very good experience for me. I learned that every member of a group has a very important role to play in the success of the project. Maintaining good focus, and same level of attention is another important factor in small group projects that can affect the outcome of the work.…
