World War One, WW1, was a tremendous event that affected the Global nation. The war began in 1914 July 28th, and lasted until 1918 November 11th. Life was challenging and unhygienic. For soldiers on the Western Front and Gallipoli, there was a wide range of weather as both theatres were there for over a year. The summer weather had the same effect on both theatres, the soldiers suffered from sunburn, heat exposure and dehydration as water supplies could sometimes be low. On the Western Front during the winter there was heavy rainfall which made the trenches extremely muddy. At Gallipoli the weather was extremely cold and it snowed causing numerous soldiers to suffer from frost bite. At Gallipoli the terrain was extremely hilly, with not many flat surfaces. The Western Front terrain was very unhygienic and dirty, the trenches were filled with mud causing terrible living conditions for the soldiers. The trenches on the Western Front were filled with rats that could grow up to the size of cats, lice, frogs and nits. These creators were responsible for many diseases such as trench fever, trench foot and head lice, (Michael Duffy 2009). Lack of sanitation at Gallipoli was a huge problem. Men suffered from dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid fever, pneumonia and cholera, (Victorian government 2011). Due to the conditions in both Gallipoli and western front the ANZACS life was harsh as they faced disease, challenging terrain and trying weather
