8.11.12: It was reported to me by a student that Miss. Gomes placed him in a seat at the front of the room facing the wall were he could not see the board. He told me that when he moved to see she told him to not look at the board and could he not hear. After speaking with Mrs. Gomes she told me she did place him at the desk by the wall but he did not need to see the board she was just talking to the class. I contacted mom and let her know of the situation and that we would be keeping an eye on…
I listened to the performance with great effort and tried to pick out detail. Due to my lack of knowledge before participating in this course, I was unable to precisely, dissect and have full understanding of all the musical detail displayed. I feel that this experience exposed and enhanced…
My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…
The leadership role in which I have had the greatest positive influence in has been as the Fine Arts Commissioner in ASB. As the Fine Arts Commissioner, it is my responsibility to showcase the performing arts in any way I possibly can, and while I have successfully done that, I’ve also successfully created a new rally that now occurs every year. Even though last year was my first year on ASB, I still made an impact on my school by taking charge of said new rally. My ASB director wanted to try having an on-campus winter dance before winter break and we figured the best way to promote the new dance would be through a rally. In addition, my ASB director didn’t want to have cheer and dance perform in this rally, for they perform in every other…
“My Day at the FGCU Campus” Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) offers many things besides just schooling. They offer a sustainable way of life and allow its students to become one with nature. Some highlights within the campus are a wide variety of ecosystems including the Food Forest, nature trails, and lakes. My favorite sustainable feature that FGCU offers is the Food Forest.…
As a, Agender Queer Chicanx I navigate the world as someone that constantly has to evaluate the way I look and behave otherwise I risk putting myself in danger. When I walk into a room I have to make sure that my demeanor and vocal tone are palatable, or risk being profiled and seen as a danger to those around me. When I see law enforcement, I have to automatically start accessing all of my actions of the day to make sure I did not break some law or raise my voice to high. My daily day walking about and taking public transit is clouded with the need to be presentable and be an upstanding citizen or else. All that at a personal level, but maintained by a society that forces me to conform, adapt and be seen as “one of the good ones” in order to live and be seen as worthy of human decency.…
Through my involvement at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic and at FSA Community Program I learned to work in a team and to always share the same goal as my teammates. This common goal is to give the best and most accurate service to the patient at the clinic, the same goal was shared during my time at FSA. These teamwork experiences have also taught me to provide, accept and use feedback from the members of my group, and to always adapt, improve and develop new skills. Through these three activities, I was able to reinforce my reliability and resilience. By volunteering at a hospital and clinic, I was able to meet different types of patients with very different backgrounds and cultures, which allowed me to reinforce my cultural competence,…
The Drive Reflection The Drive was surprisingly easy to write. It was easy because I was simply jotting down my emotions. I already had the whole essay in my head before I knew we were writing an essay. Though, I did not want to write a school essay on it.…
When I reflect back on this assignment the most vital lesson I learned is to allow the evidence to guide your conclusion. Our group created a well put together PICO question comparing two conservative treatments for knee osteoarthritis (OA). Prior to this literature review, our group was in agreement one intervention would be more beneficial in improving function and reducing pain in patients with knee OA. All of the background information pointed towards one being more effective than the other. However, the research available did not support this statement.…
I joined the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble at the high school and continued to try and better myself as a musician. My music department also offered me other musical opportunities such as festivals. I have attended several festivals such as the Lakes Region music festival and the All New England music festival. These festivals allowed me to come together with other students from different schools that loved singing and performing as much as I did. Every time I perform at one of these festivals I am overwhelmed by how beautiful music can be when everyone I am working with is just as passionate as I am about the work we are doing and also extremely talented.…
The course AFAS 160 D1 is my first online class, and until now I still felt lucky to choose this class as one of my general education classes, because it gave me a great opportunity and an eye-opening experience about learning the African American Culture which I have never learned before and also gave me a chance to learn online. Describing this course to someone else, I would say this class is interesting and if you want to learn this class well, you need to prepare the Voice Thread and read the book carefully. To be honest, making videos on Voice Thread gave me a unique experience. I still remembered the first time I made a video on Voice Thread how nervous I was, I was afraid to have different ideas with other students and worried if they disagreed with me what should I do?…
Upon reflection of the EDF5141 Health unit. I believe it has assisted me in gaining some skills which will result in helping me reach my goals as a teacher. These goals I have for myself align with two Australian Professional Teaching Standards (APST) by the AITSL. These include ‘knowing the content and how to teach it’ and ‘plan for and implement effective teaching and learning’. ‘Knowing the content and how to teach it’ is a standard from the Professional Knowledge section and talks about the knowledge you have for the subject and understanding how it should be taught which suits the learning style of the students whilst aligning with the Australian government's requirements.…
The teachers in the magnet program were really focused on the kids and our academics, they made sure that we were getting all of our class assignments done and ensure students completed all the courses required by the state of Florida to graduate High school, while on the other hand the teachers at North Miami weren’t as involved in the students learning as much as the teachers at North Miami Beach. Instructors at North Miami would assign long assignment and would expect the students to complete the assignment in a short period of time, without realizing that we have other classes and other activities that would hinder us from completing all the works. While teachers at North Miami Beach would give a long assignment and would break it down piece by piece and have certain parts due on different days that way the students won’t feel overwhelmed with assignments, so teachers at North Miami Beach senior were more understanding than Teachers at North Miami.…
We live in a world where fear and anxiety are common and in some point in our lives we will all witness a traumatic event, however, the way one reacts to trauma can affect him/her in the long-run. Some people are able to cope and progress from the life-threatening event with a fight-or-flight response, which is a natural coping mechanism that protects an individual from harm, while others remain constantly frightened, which leads to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a psychological disorder that is triggered by a traumatic event. This individual becomes irritable, anxious, easily frightened, depressed, and has flashbacks or nightmare of the traumatic event. Some individuals recovery in a 6-month period, while for others it becomes a chronic condition (NIMH, nd.).…
Edgar Allen Poe is an American writer that is world renown for his dark writing style, which allows the reader to be engulfed into his tales of horror and mystery. The Cask of Amontillado is a classic Poe style story that is littered with unexpected twists and turns around every corner. The reader is able to watch from afar as the main character seeks revenge against his “friend” Fortunato. Poe’s ability to create a character like Montresor amazes me because of the unique way in which he reveals the main characters poor mental health without directly stating that he is insane. The gradual realization of this is what makes the story so unique to Poe’s style.…
